Saturday night coming from work, I slide on some gravel and hit a guard rail. The driverside is smashed as is the front. It would have been OK if the rail was about a foot lower. No one was hurt only the car, amazing what 15 mph can do. I havn't decided if I'm going to part it out or find a donar to graft on. I did find a 78 El Camino SS, I think it will be a great parts hauler.

You shouldn't do that.
How bad is the damage? Inner fender toast?
fix it >.<
fender....inner fender....rad support....header...look at carpimp's old bird...same thing but on the driver's side.
Man, you don't have good luck with these things.
Shoot us a pic of it. also inside the engine bay, underside too if possible
This weekend...between school and work, I only have 5 hours to sleep during the week. Weekends are my only free time, but I'll show ya'll the damage. Once I start tearing into it I won't know the full exstint of the damage done.
WHAT? 15 effin MPH did that? Sheesh I would have thought these things *slightly* stronger than that. *shudder* ugh ppl stop wreckin ur carz I'm gonna end up sealing mine in a concrete vault for 20 years!!!! Im skeeeeeeered :(
Don't do that, it might corrode like that 59 plymouth. You got to think metal guard rails don't give much, it's stationary, I was on the move.....physics is what was involved.
Our guard rails are break away. the posts break away but the rail acts like a band that absorbs the impact.
unless your on an overpass then the car will get creamed.
Yeah good point his might be different. That's exactly what I was thinking...knowing what's along 87 and the thruway I know my 38 buick would cut it like a hot knife through butter, and even the cougar would barge on through pretty well too, they just don't look too scary :giggle:
Although, my daughter hit some ice on the thruway, her car hit the guard rail, then spun back the other way and hit the rear on the guardrail again. destroyed the car, front and back. it was a 04 grand prix. they seem a little flimsy to start with
Oh wow. Hmm. Does depend on the angle and other cirspoogestances and all that. Still don't wanna be anywhwere near it that's all I know for sure! LOL
Man, that is really shiznitty news. I hope it is repairable, but if not, good luck buying another one, because I don't think anyone wants to see you in a '77 Camino.
front-end = repair!!!!
Started looking for parts today, A&P school got out early today. Parts are kinda hard to find in this part of Texas.
Calling all Houstonians, if anyone knows of a parts yard or a parts car, let me know. 87 or 88 TC, any color.

Just an update, all the parts are on the car now. Welded in the rad support (starting from the strut towers to the very front.) Door, fender and header panel installed. I did have to splice two bumpercovers together (I used aircraft urethane epoxy/sealant). I had enough material to make an airdam/ground FX, I used the upper half of a bumpercover and turned it upside down. Looks very cool, when it's done I'll snap some pics and let y'all be the judge. All thats left is to find some good lights for the front...Should be back on the road very shortly.

Sunday I'll show you what I have done to fix this problem....stay tuned.
I don't want to wait til Sunday.I'l expect those pis to be posted by the time I get off work today !!!! LOL.
If you have the skill and the parts, you could clip it. or clip 1 side
these cars are easy to do that to in the front. the backs are kinda tough.
I'm already driving it, I'm waiting for better front lights and rattle can paint job before I post the after pics. I used some "L" brackets and welded the front clip on.
better lights will be on the way once I get money! glad I could help you get this beast on the road!
