In the words of Dr. McCoy....

"He's dead Jim..."

By the time you source another good quarter panel, fix it, etc you'd be much more ahead just finding another car with a decent body and swap your other parts.

X2.I bought my car complete and running for $350.00 and took all of the parts from my other car to upgrade and repair. To fix the other car I had would've far exceeded the value, and that's just bodywork, not the lights, etc.Grab another body in good shape, start swapping your parts.

get a stud welder, weld some studs on, and get a puller and a spoogealong, and start pulling. Someone did that on another form, worked decent. Your gonna have a hell of a time getting the trunk to close right

If it was mine, I would fix it. Only because i'm crazy like that.
Lets see a pic of the other side and a shot from the back looking down both sides.

stud welders are for cosmetics. that is more than cosmetic.

if the other side isnt too bad you are at least gonna hafta cut the d.side quarter off and fix the inner structure on this side....if the other side is swayed out, its gonna need a visit to the frame rack.

if you like body work, go for it. i would get another and move all the good parts over.

now that you say that the guy welded bolts to the panel, bolted a spoogealong to it connected it to a tree and pulled the  out of it

no i cant but i now how to weld i was 3rd in the state of michigan for mig welding in 07 of skill usa. i was thinking about takeing it to a shop or to my grandfathers house. i have seen a tc for sale by me that i could use for the parts.
Title: would u fix it?
Post by: daminc on February 11, 2008, 06:37:49 PM
well, first you need to have the frame pulled back.
Is you do all the prep work they need before, It'll save you a lot of $
you mainly need the drivers quarter and lid. and of course back lights.
They may want the drivers quarter taken off. and I would say the back glass.

if you have full quarters, you won't need to do body work.

Your estimate is pretty close, maybe a little low depending on the quality of work and where you live.  To do it right, the shop will take the rear quarters from another car.  That means from the rear of the doors to the brake lights.  Then there are the subframes.

If you really want to keep it, your only hope of getting realisitically getting it fixed is to find somebody that will cut you a lot of slack with the labor bill.

You should think seriously about finding another car, park them side by side then start swapping parts.

i think i found a tc by me to buy and use so i think that will cut down on the cost to some and i was going to tell them they could keep whats left of the doner car if they give me a big cut on the price lol

If you're going to repair it, now would be good time to check with the local auto repair schools/colleges and volunteer your car for a class.

good luck you are gonna need it. but let this stick in you head of why you shouldn't drive your pride in joy in the snow and ice. fix the one you've got or swap over the parts, but when you get done get a pos to dirve on snowy days. i think about the countless times i didn't go any where just to make sure da bird was safe.

believe me i know its tough to let go. my wife washiznit in the tc back in july and i tried everything to save the car. and i work in an auto repair shop w/ access to the body shop next door. yes it can be fixed but if the frame is bent or tweaked the car will never be right. salvage what you can, save every part on that car that you can and start over.

it looks like its bent!! does the passenger side door open ok? is the car sitting perfect on all four wheels? look under it on the frame rails for an visible damage. Its your car, but its NOT gonna ever be the same cause thats a HARD hit, and you messed up a LARGE section of the car

Did you get pics of underneath?
Is the inside of your trunk crimpled anywhere?
you may be able to take some measurements under there also
may also be able to put a straight edge along the frame front to back to see if it is out

right now i might be geting it fixed. a guy me and my dad work with has a bodyshop on the side and said he might be able to do it so it will be cheaper than anyone els and i will be able to help with it and learn how to do it and drop the cost doing some of the work my self. i can do all the welding that it needs so that will drop the cost a lot. and him being a friend will let me help with it.

I liked seeing that car myself as well. I can totally understand the sentimental value. The only thing that would keep me from not selling it is if the frame was bent. Hope all goes well.

Now, if you're not in a hurry to get it back on the road, would be the time for a subframe-up rebuild (like Overhaulin' but not Pimp My Ride)

Fully weld those seams, SFCs, remove all rust, soundproofing, etc etc.

I *hate* computers correcting my "mistakes."  That's "I R S", not "Irs".

Sorry man but that frame is bent bad.
Look at the rear cross brace in your picture.
That brace is for structural support and it's bent pretty good.
Also your trunk shifted because the framework that holds the supports is bent to hell.
The creasing on the pass 1/4 also confirms that the whole rear end of the car is shifted over a few inches.
Like said a few previous posts ago(anything is fixable depending on how deep your pockets are)but you can pick up another car in nice shape with low miles for what it would cost to fix that.
My condolences on your ride, may she R.I.P..

that whole axle has to be shifted over to the pass side some.  and you know whats attached to the axle.

theres just so much darn interior bends to be taken care of first before you could even start to place donor exterior skin on. man thats a hard one but its your choice.

I vote common sense and carry a ton of her parts over to another car, perhaps even the motor.

If you carry over a ton of parts including the tranny and motor, then she never died, just got a nice make over.  The heartbeat of your car is the pieces parts inside and and under the hood.  Give her a face lift on another car with a blown motor / tranny.

that way your not losing your baby.
