I was at a race once that required lers.  One guy there had a sweet 66ish Corvette with sidepipes, which were too loud.  His solution was to use a coathanger to tie a tin can over each pipe exit.  That was enough to get him through tech.  I still remember him pulling a wheelie with those cans dragging on the ground.

Moral of the story, get yourself something temporary - steel wool, baffles, something stuck into the end of the pipe.  Stop half a block away from the inspection place and install whatever it is, get the tag, then get it out.

See that would be fine except we dont have a safety inspection. All there supposed to do is do sniff test and a quick visual check for cats not a thing to do with sound or loudness. It all comes down to the inspector didnt want to do her job.because my car has turndowns (law reads 12" or an arm lenth under the car is acceptable) to be able to test wich mines falls within.

Try a different station.  I can't believe they have this in Tennessee.  We don't even have this in San Antonio.

gads, a lazy paper pusher.  +1 on trying a different location.  if that isn't an option, how about getting some more exhaust pipe from an auto supply to get it closer?

Glad i'm in NY,
 no sniff test here.
Only to make sure there's cats on it. and in 4 more years my car won't even need them.

Is it the same everywhere else after 25 years?  (the cat part I mean)
