Title: left the fox behind and upgraded to MN12...
Post by: 1WLD BRD on December 15, 2007, 01:40:42 AM
I gotta go pick this car up tomorrow night:
1994 4.6L Thunderbird:

Never played with a Mod motor before so it should be fun....:burnout:  Thinking about a 5.4 swap all ready, then a t45....

It has the same interior color as my 95:D . You know I like the ride and handeling of my 95 but I still like my 88 better. Yeah it's not as sophisticated as the 95 but it just has more character than the 95 ever could ;)

Yeah, I miss my '88 too....  I will still be grabbing that TC shell for a project after chritmas, so I haven't totaly abandoned my fox roots...  LOL  The good thing about this car is it isn't a V6,

Does it have after market exhaust those pipes out back look stock but centered
That cold air kit looks like those 14 dollar ones on eBay one size fits all I’m sure they work though I was surprised when I installed it on my bosses truck the quality was pretty good just a little annoying trying to figure the best way to get it in there.

there is no resonator or lers, (or cats I think) and I guess he fabed up the CAI himself.  We'll see how it sounds and I will at the very least put new cats and resonator on it.  I am thinking about putting an S-trim on it, but haven't decided yet.

Needs the hub swap for the 4.5 bolt patter rims. I have yet to do that to mine but it is on the list of things to do.

Oh and shouldn't that thing have a air meter on the intake? I know my 96 does. Also needs this too http://supercoupeperformance.com/partBrowser.aspx?partId=506

yep, and yeah I may do the hub swap, as I have a set of brand new bullitts laying around here, that I was going to put on the cougar...

as for paint, I was thinking of doing it the same colour I did my '88 bird.  Those are some very nice T-bird pics!  I really like the white one with the 10th anny rims....  hell, that blue one is hot too.

HELL NO!  I hate the guys at TCCOA, they all act like stuck up as#holes over there.  I will be on there everynow and then just to get info on upgrades, but I will be staying here.  I have been a member there, since I joined here, same with SCCOA.  I think I might have 50 posts at TCCOA, and 7 at SCCOA.

This is my home.....  I will be picking up a TC soon, to play with.

You have a broken spring in your 1-2 shift accumulator.
It's an easy fix, and you should definitely fix it ASAP. There is an upgraded accumulator piston from Ford that should be installed as well as the new spring.

Yes, the attitude at TCCoA is really baffling. I've been a member there for over three years, but I don't post all that often.
Some of those guys seem like the most pretentious buttholes you could ever meet.
Nice Thunderbird, dude. I've said it here before: I love my MN12.

Yup my dads Mark VIII does that cause of the accumulator problem. He will never fix it though. He will just let the trans take a dump instead...

I like the white one on pg2.

Over the years I have seen dozens of MN12's and dozens on Fox Cougar/T-Birds in junk yards. My impression of the MN12 is that the interior is really cool - I always wished I could c00ch some of the "coolness" from their interiors. On the other hand, once I pulled my head out from inside the car I would always be reminded of why I stayed with a Fox chassis when I was "upgrading" from my '83. The pancaked look and bulky weight just never grew on me. Add to that the IRS and 4.6L Mod motor and hood clearance issues on the 5L models and I just couldn't do it. Like I said though, I like the look of the white one on pg. 2, so there is some potential there.

Step 1.  Get rid of that super-restrictive intake box on top of the motor.

I would run in "limp home" mode. Mine came partially unplugged the other day and my car idled like  (but ran fine) until I figured out what it was.

As for MN12's... I used to own a 97 4.6 and while it had decent power there were quite a few things I didnt like about it. I could list them all but I'll just say I prefer the foxes hands down for many reasons.

BTW, checkout what happens when you hit 106 MPH... heheh...

mine runs pretty  good with out it, but I will be putting a new one in after the holidays...

as for the 106 MPH.....  well, I want to keep this car, not give it to the government, and have a $10,000 fine.....  that is alot of upgrades.....

hahah, I think I just sold it already though... LOL.

You can most likely fix that the same way you can in an EEC-IV car with a speed limiter (Mark VII)

So you're saying that in Canada if you get clocked over 100 you might as well run because you're screwed anyway.

That sucks!

yeah, in Ontario at least.  anything 50kms over now is considered "street racing"  including squealing your tires....  Now they will take your car and liscence away for 7 day, and a Minimum of $2000 fine + court fees + inpound and towing fees....

actually compare to my 5.0L Cougar it will out pull it at any RPM....  and smokes the tires from a stop, by just stomping the gas, something my cougar cant do with out a brake torque.

Pretty easy to smoke the tire with an open rear....they are solid mid to high 15-sec cars stock.  I don't like them because of the extra 400lbs, no extra interior room for the weight penalty, and you can't use much in the way of Mustang parts....not like you can in the foxes anyway.  You need 4.10 gears and a loose convertor...oh yeah, and a traction loc!

no shiznit, but I said "tires  as in plural....  and what does a stock '88 XR-7 run?  yeah, that is why it feels faster then the cougar....  it is.  and yeah 4.10s and a shift kit are planned.

i didnt technically run mine, but simulated dyno ran it. 16.6 if i recall. and thats with BBK headers, 2.5 offroad H-pipe, flowmaster 50's catback, underdrive pulleys, deleted air pump and H.O. intake and throttle body. VERY DEPRESSING. you just cant make any power with the cams they used in these cars. besides a supercharger, i did about all i could do to a stock engine and still only make 150-155 at the wheels.

If you didn't change the heads, I think you still were encountering the worst restriction.
