Title: rebuilt my motor
Post by: Innes on December 10, 2007, 06:38:33 PM
Its only been 2½ months

Finally posting that I’m complete w/my rebuilding of motor. Here we go starting from the bottom.
ROTATING ASSEMBLY is stock E7 crank cut .020 fresh rings & bearings. Fulton street machine shop in Farmingdale did all my machine work. Mellling high volume oil pump new pick-up and pan.
CAMSHAFT TFS-1 not degreed just put in at “0”
HEADS GT40 irons milled .040 w/a .039 compressed felpro 1011-2 gasket approx 10:1 compression. Exhaust side is mildly ported thematic bump grinded down; intake side just touched the impurity’s inside and the bur on the end (not much I now)
INTAKE explorer GT40 touched a little w/the grinder same as the intake side of the heads
TB 70mm BBK, EGR eliminator bracket
Still running the 19lb injectors and stock mass air meter (right now this is my weak point) I did inquire 24lbers from a J/K 460 for free but have no maf to match right now.
BBK fuel pressure reg
BBK cold air
EXAUST-FRPP shorty headers to BBK X-pipe (no cats) to straight pipes going out back. Need s to loud right now.
Other HP helpers
Smog pump deleted
A/C deleted
Electric fan
ChuckW motor mounts
High energy ignition coil FRPP wires
TRANSMISSION- Lentech street terminator with O/D delete switch
With a 2600-2800 stall converter
REAR still stock 7.5 w/3.55 in it. Soon upgrade T/C 8.8 rear in garage waiting not decided what gears to run though 3.55, 3.73, or 4.11
Other late mod is 140 Speedo that I’m still trying to figure out.
Took all summer to rebuild, finally cranked it over/started it at the end of September still no time to drive it finally posting this by the time I’m done w/this car it will truly be a classic.
OK heres my dumb/I’m still a kid question what’s some of your opinions of how much power I’m making (FHP or gross)(FHP w/ac or NET) and (GWHP or rear wheel
NET) and (GWHP or rear wheel)

Short and sweet video gotta get s, but it’s the car at idle showing off the thundercat electronics sequential taillights

Sounds like a nice combination, but please put some lers on it! Nice looking engine bay. I would go with a 3.73 or 4.11, depends on what type of driving you will be doing. I am no good at guessing hp.

I'd say you're not too far behind me Bill,  Maybe 25-30 less, but you have 3.55's as opposed to my 3.27's  What's the weight like?

Oh yeah,  I gotta get me one of Carm's light kits!

Thanks guys
Yes now that I figured out youtube ill try and get more video of my car what you saw wasn’t intended for the engine running it was actually for the taillights but I figured while I’m filming I might as well have the engine running. I installed them thanksgiving morning that’s when I get time to do things.

My guess on horsepower is staring at a 225 net HP E7 motor.
Better breathing heads cam intake at least 40hp
Compression a full point the book says 30hp
Other helpers exhaust, pulleys a/c & s/p delete elect/fan etc. another 25-30 hp
About a 100hp gain.
Id say it’s safe to say 300 but hope its 325.
But I don’t know.

For gears I'd go with 3.73s. My combo is almost the same as yours (I have a different cam) and it really likes the 3.73 gears ;)

Now all you need to do is junk those shorty headers and go with a set of long-tubes. :hick:

Looking good...get some slicks and gears in that T/C rear and use that transbrake...I want to see what this thing will run!

ditto on the valve covers, May I ask where they came from?

Stock stang ones cleaned and painted w/aluminum engine paint.
There is no way I’m paying 140 for a set and it is going to give me no performance gain

Have a set of summit headers think there the same as flowtech couldn’t get them in at the time (2years ago)

Can’t wait for the rear to go in

The trany didn’t come w/a trans brake that would have been a bonus

I read your first post so quickly, my brain saw what it wanted to..."strip terminator"...lol.  Even though it clearly says street terminator...:dunce: <---me

Personally, I think the valve covers look good.

I don’t remember how I did that actually I did that a year ago I possibly did w/channel locks w/it on the work bench.
But your making me wonder if maybe I should not have did that cause I have a vacuum leak I cant find even back than when I rebuilt my motor I put a fresh layer of paint on the upper. Thought the problem was fixed but slowly it came back. So I’m wondering if the paint temporally sealed a fracture in it.

I share a secrete w/ya I wasn’t going to say this till it was on the car but I just purchased a GT40 tubular upper from a guy on corral it will be shipped to me early January.

I bet that's where your leak is from:hick:

I've decided that I'm going to pull the fitting off and replace it with a plug since I have no use for it. It might be easier to cut it off and then drill out the hole than to pull it off though.....

With a 2600-2800 stall converter

Is that enough stall for the TFS cam? I didn't think the TFS cam came on till 3000. Where does the power band of that cam start?  I'd like to pick one up if it comes on below 3 grand... Because it sure sounds good!

Mine stalls right at 26-2800.  It's great!

Thanks Paul, I think I'm gonna pick one up. The cam sounds killer in Innes video. What a great idle lope! Might be a good spring time project.

The TFS-1 cam rpm range is 2000-5500 I heard people say it’s a better E-cam when your ordering a stall converter tell them its for a street car though mine has a heavy stall if I drive normal the car still goes forward but if I romp on it the converter kicks in. so I’m ok I must say I was concerned w/such a heavy stall speed thinking the car was going to move very well till I got close to the stall speed.

Looks real nice! You might be suprized at what you could put down. I'll guess 275 at the wheels on a good tune. Keep up the good work:burnout:

I would only hope so but I’m probably a little short threw the AOD don’t know how much I loose going threw it.
