on '88 XR-7s with 10 inch drums..... if you wish to keep the drum brakes.....
:shakeass:
someone will probly correct my numbers, BUT fox 10" brakes are 2"(IIRC) and the rangers are 2.5"
or maybe it was 1.5" and 2".....
either way, they dont match.
the 10" guys are kinda up a creek as no off the shelf 5lug drum matches up.
the best theory i have come up with for 10" drum conversions is using the full ranger backin plate, guts, and drums along with the proper axles. it must be noted that this setup would narrow the rear track to mustang width. i also havent tried it, so dont know for sure it would actually work.
yeah your right, I remembered that after I shut off the comp and layed down...... . the mustang track doesnt really bother me, it is the brake issue, which as you just stated, you should be able the use the full ranger ......
One could always drill the 5-lug pattern into the stock 10" drums... ;)
7.5" and 8.8" axles are the same. You could grab the whole rear end from a V6 Mustang and pull the axles, caliper brackets, and moan brackets and bolt it right up to an 8.8 rear.
does not equal
that might be an option w/sn95 axles. thats why i said "kinda" and "off the shelf" :p
yeah hell, if you want disc's, it is FAR easier and faster, to just swap out the entire rearend. (which is what I will be doing soon)
Thanks Dr Obvious. Next time I try to help I'll keep my comments to myself.
Jump into a thread discussing drum brakes and talk about disk brakes, then call someone Dr Obvious when they point out that youre in a drum brake thread...I love this place.
