hope this is not a repost i got HD DVD because i allready had a XBOX360. So price wise for me was the best way to upgrade so Facts or Not. The Question is do you like HD DVD or Blu-Ray better and why? Got all this in the last 4 days plus i get 5 more movies in the mail Free.
I heard HD DVD will be superior over blue ray. Sony being reason #1
i mean blue ray over HD DVD
Sony is a company that mostly cares about making things and making money quick so for that being their downfall plus the design of the Blu-Ray discs themselves the only way i might get blu-ray is PS3 otherwise i won't. Also being that most PS3 games suck the Blu-Ray discs do sell a little faster can't play great games gotta do something else. Thats just what i think
PS3 games rock,360 games suck(except for a select few,halo3 etc).
Sony already won the war in my book, their system is more like a complete computer/home entertainment system than anything i've ever seen.
360 is just a gaming system,yay!
As for the blue-ray/hd battle, have yet to watch either but i think blue ray will have this one wrapped up due to it's hard drive like 50gb storage capacity.
Blu - Ray looks much better than HD DVD
I mean I don't even think I can say IMO
I know it's better.
HD DVD still kicks DVDs ass but Blu - Ray wins the prize
People are going to catch on to HD DVD better than Blu ray, simply because it sounds more familiar. I think its also cheaper.
Blu-Ray will win. Disney teamed up with them to produce all their movies in Blu-Ray.
HD-DVD will be the Betamax of this decade. I wonder if my neighbor still has his old Betamax...
i still got my betamax, still works like a champ too. alot more then i can say of VCR's from the same era.
I'm going to have to side with HD-DVD. Especially since Walmart is going to sell a player for 100 bucks. What's the cheapest blu ray player? 300 or 400 bucks? Not only that, dvd factories are able to produce hd dvd's the same way traditional dvds are produced. To make blu ray discs they will need to revamp the whole works. It comes down to an issue of the bottom line. It's cheaper to watch and produce hd dvd's. As far as quality, I watch both blu ray and hd dvd's on a 100" projector screen and the difference is not significant. The only thing that will keep blu ray alive is the sony fanboys.
I hate to turn this into a Playstation/360 argument, but my roommate has both. He's got the hd player with his xbox and we watch a lot of movies. My personal pick has to be the 360 by far. It has a much better online infrastructure even if it isn't free. There are more games available for the 360. Not only that, most game developers prefer to code for the 360 because coding for the ps3 is a nightmare. At my place the ps3 has done little more than gather dust since it arrived. We do watch a few blu rays on it, but hd is preferred.
I can't believe Sony is foolish enough to wage this war again. If they've got money to burn then bring down the price of that PS3 and help developers make some games!!! I was a loyal Playstation owner but no more. The only two games I was interested in were the new Final Fantasy Series and Soul Calibur 4. That's like 5 games. And SC4 will be on Xbox. Hopefully Final Fantasy (not those MMORPGs) will make it over to Xbox 360.
In the end it doesn't matter which one is "better" (see Betamax, Dreamcast & etc... ). It's which one becomes adopted by the masses. But I haven't seen either. I thought about buying an HD DVD player for the Xbox but I think I will wait and see who wins this battle and spend my money elsewhere.
It kinda is anyways. PS3/Blu-Ray vs. Xbox360/HD DVD. It's kinda odd to have a discussion without mentioning the consoles... excuse me, entertainment systems that support them.
Well since Sony made Betamax and already lost to Toshiba's VCR I don't think they would make the same mistake twice. Also, Blu-Ray has some strong studios behind it.
I think you will see a lot of people going to dual players that will play both formats. I think that both will have a market and that HD DVD will prevail in the sprint, but Blu-Ray will win the marathon.
HD DVD players might be cheaper but not all the discs are Blu-Ray still has cheaper discs most of the time but the cost of some money is the same price no matter which you own.
BioShock
Forza 2
Halo 3
and i got 90 more games so just trust me XBOX is 1 year ahead of PS3 and will have more games and stuff to do before both systems phase out. Also 10 HD DVDs and spent almost 50,000 microsoft points to save the math "over $600".
The xbox360 has 2 free games and HDMI cables to throw in for X-mas.
PS3 has spider-man 3 on Blu-Ray and some movies in the mail because the still are lacking in games.
The Wii is just a nice game system with a few minor extras but seems to sell the fastest and plays no movies at all.
Also i still seem to have money to get this Vortech SC..........still need a few more parts before i get it all put on. Oh well its a nice start and I am sure my E-cam will like it a lot.
A lot of studios are actually going to dual format. It isn't going to be long before Disney decides to go dual format.
Previous failure does not mean future success. Look at mini disk, memory stick, umd's. While they enjoyed a short period of prosperity, they died a quick death. I will be surprised if blu ray has even a quarter of the market share by this time next year.
A very good point, but I don't see Sony messing up this one.
They are boasting a higher capacity at a cost/benefit ratio that isn't favorable. I'm not saying blu ray isn't superior, it has higher capacity and probably is a better product. I'm saying the technology is ahead of it's time. They're on the bleeding edge - by the time their blu ray invention will become useful on an average joe's budget, something else will come along and one-up it.
With the recent developments on xbox live, you are able to download high-def content. It won't be long before HD and bluray are rendered obsolete at least for renters. Why drive to the store or wait for a netflix delivery when you can have a high def movie in seconds via xbox live? Has sony implemented such a system as of yet?
Here's a little trivia about betamax vs. vhs - it is believed that vhs was given the larger foothold because the porn industry sided with them. Guess who has chosen blu ray as their medium! Not sure I'd want to watch a high def porn... OOO!!! Look at the genital warts and implant scars! Though it was a major decision maker for betamax and vhs, i doubt it will do much here.
I dunno PS3 is way too expensive right now and has for the most part py titles. I am waiting to buy one in 08 when they start tapping into the true power of the system. I am still a sony guy for now....
If they don't impress me next year I don't think I will get one but I highly doubt that will happen. And most 360 games I can play on my PC which is better than a 360 anyway and I don't have to pay to play online...
All i've got to say is:
Blu-ray= 1080p max resolution and a now attainable 200gb storage capacity(TDK, a world leader in digital recording solutions, has reached a landmark in the development of recordable blue laser technology, achieving a groundbreaking capacity of 200GB. Bruce Youmans, TDK Vice President of Product Research & Development, said: "The ultra-ambitious technology roadmap for Blu-ray has now been confirmed as realistic, with landmarks such as this proving the long term value of the format against its rivals. TDK was the first to develop a prototype 100GB recordable Blu-ray Disc, and yet again, our landmark achievement in creating a 200GB disc is affirming the company's position as a true pioneer in advancing the capabilities of optical media.)Little excerpt i found"
HD-dvd= 1080i max resolution and only 30gb max capacity.
HMMMMMMMMMMM which is better?????????????
Nuff said!!
I still have mine... Two in fact(but only one is still operable)... Have a bunch of great NASCAR from '84 & '85, need to get of my ass and DVD some of it...
What's a Blue Ray????:D
The real question how to fill a 200GB Disc??? the kind of space means you could copy many movies on one disc leading to a big fall in sales maybe.
The DVD-9 format of the HD can hold up to 30gigs do you need anymore for a single movie disc.
Also has it been said many times is easy to mess up the blu-ray disc because of the process used to make them.
Just because something is better doesn't necessarily mean it's going to catch on. Average joe is going pick something more accessible and inexpensive. I wouldn't be surprised if discs are replace by something else in the near future, flash drives maybe? By that time, blu ray will probably just be beginning its useful life.
what kind of movies are you talking about? Regular Definition ones? because apparently you don't know how much space HD Video especially 1080P takes up.
One hour of DV takes about 13 gigabytes, while one hour of HDV video takes from 38-50 gb, depending on the complexity of the video being encoded.
Exact:
1080 23.98 10 bit 4:2:2 uncompressed = 448 GB per hour, or 7.4 GB a minute.
1080 23.98 10 bit 4:2:2 DNxHD 220 = 79 GB per hour or 1.3 GB per minute
now these are not exactly the same formats as what video we see from movies but it gives you the idea of how much more HD Vid takes up.
this is why HD DVD will not have the capacity to compete with the much better Blu - Ray
It's not just the movies guys,it's the space needed for today's up coming games.
With upto 200gb, the space is available for some insanely huge(never ending) and lifelike(1080p) looking games.
They had problems programing for the ps2 back in the day(or so they said)as well but they finally figured that out and it had some pretty sick looking games as well.
I honestly think it's some kind of scare tactic put out there by the other company to falsify the need to buy their inferior product.
I think the 360 is a nice piece(will probably get one next year) but it does not compare to the ps3 in it's disc storage capacity, free internet gaming, resolution and reliability thus far.
Plus with the recent price drop to 399.00cdn for the 40gb and the 360's 399.00cdn for the 20gb the ps3 wins again in it's system storage capacity, free internet gaming and 1080p at the lower levels.
As for the high end levels, the 80gb motorstorm package(sys i currently own) and the 360 elite, the 360 has a 120gb drive but that's it,no higher, the ps3 is easily upgradeable to 250gb or higher with a laptop hardrive that installs and formats in minutes.
The fact that the 360 includes an hdmi cable means nothing to me as i can get a 12 foot monster cable down here for 25.00 which is far superior to the generic cable they give you with the 360.
