Title: cell phone warning
Post by: jcassity on October 04, 2007, 05:00:20 PM
i just got an email from our communications department.

said........

Cell phone numbers going public tomorrow

All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies tomorrow and you will start to receive sale calls.

....YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:
888-382-1222 <-----*Edit by Thunder Chicken: DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER, YOU WILL BE GIVING YOUR CELL PHONE NUMBER TO SPAMMERS IF YOU DO
or www.donotcall.gov (http://"http://www.donotcall.gov")

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time
It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

The very first words on the "www.donotcall.gov" website you linked to:

Quote
Did you get an email claiming that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls because of a new cell phone number database? Those claims are not true. In fact, federal law prohibits telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phones. You may place your personal cell phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry, but there is generally no reason to do so. For more information, see the FTC's press release "The Truth about Cell Phones and the Do Not Call Registry" (http://"http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2007/02/dnccellphones.htm").

If you actually called that phone number from your cell phone I'd bet you'll start receiving cell phone spam very shortly...

I heard on the TV news a few days ago that the original do not call will expire shortly. If you want it to continue you must reregister.
