Title: Too funny....
Post by: LittleAngel1198 on August 28, 2007, 10:41:45 PM
Check out this answer....The question was "1/5th of Americans can't find the US on a map, why do you think this is?"

If this girl's answer is an example of the intelligence of our kids, we are all doomed.I'm so smart! (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww")

blah blah blah, Iraq, blah blahblah Africa, blah blah blah.

You know what?  This is assinine.  She was obviously trying to come up with something intellegent to say, but floundered.

My 11 year old daughter could come up with a better answer under pressure than that kid did.  And i BET she has a better understanding of world events and the BS of polotics too.  I may not be able to spell that well, but i try to teach my child that life is not JUST waht she sees on the news.  I gaurantee the reason why  1/5 of all americans cant find the US on a map is because parents continue to allow their children to be taught by the televison  (along with all the politicly motivated BULL  that goes along with it)  instead of teaching their children things that ......you know.... might be vital.  Like reading a freaking MAP!  My daughter could navigate successfuly using a hand drawn map and the stars at age 8. AGE 8!!!!!  She loves the outdoors just like her mom and dad.

/rant.

I blame the parents.

Wow.. I'm so lucky to be surrounded by all of you that have never given stupid answers to questions.

The girl choked, so she says in
this interview she gave later. Miss Teen USA 2007 - Today Show (http://"http://youtube.com/watch?v=w5zV0eK00Vk")  and seems pretty obvious to me watching her video.
I think the question was pretty bogus also..

A recent poll shows 1/5 of Americans can't locate the US on a map?

Because the poll is bogus! Would be the correct answer (I hate polls) count yourself as #1 now can you find 4 more that can't locate the USA on a map? (Canadians don't count) I can't! as she states in her second chance to answer the question.

She botched it.. no doubt! doesn't make her an idiot, makes her human. I'm probably biased as I have a daughter about the same age and appearance and I could see her doing the same thing. My daughter graduated with a 4.0 GPA.. and she can read a map and find the USA on it. I know this because as Birdman suggest I worked with her on her geography lessons when she was in school....(she's not stupid) but put her in front of National Television and watch what happens... lol Put ME in front of national television and see what happens (been there, at age 9 .. I refused to say ANYTHING!)

She's not stupid, nor is it 'the parent's fault" .. she choked.. so what!

Sorry.  I may have been a little harsh and pre-emptive in my response.  Ive been dealing with "Children" (Under 18) all night because their oh so ver "Attentive" parents let them run amok like idiots.  I actually ran across an 8 year old at about 1 AM.    The kid was tossing rocks through a conveniance store window, and then ran from me AND the police.  And to top it off this little kid claims he's "Gangster" and will "make all y'all white boys pay".  He even saif " **** the police."  where does this come from?  Bad parenting.
(they were too busy getting high to notice that their 8 year old had been gone for 3 hours.  Yeah. THREE hours.)

As for the blundered question, I'm sure she is an intellegent person.  For some reason i see in her just another brainwashed little girl willing to beleive anything the mass media force-feeds her.  I hate pageants.  ....... lol I guess its because i was never pretty enough for one!

Is a shame about that kid you had to deal with the other day Birdman. Not a shame that YOU had to do it, but a shame that it had to be done at all. Blessings that there are people like you out there to do what you can. Unfortunately that kind of thing is found all to often in our society

I had my “princess” in a pageant when she was about 6-8 years old. We just went and had fun, she got to be pretty (what she loved to do) got a brand new dress that Granny made her, got to get up and sing in her new fancy pink dress in front of an audience (she choked and got pissed.. sure wish I had that on tape for AFV!) so nothing against pageants here.. if done for the right reason. There was those in there that had there 8 year old daughters made up to look like 20 year olds (red lipstick etc) and mothers pressuring them to win to do whatever it took.. that was pretty sad.. (there ya go Birdman… the  parent’s again, SOME parents anyway) Well we had fun, she looked beautiful, she didn’t sing the stupid “somewhere over the rainbow” song I must have sang with her 1000 times getting her ready (we both still know all the words) she came in like #200 out of 300 (way down there someplace) and we had a blast. So pageants are cool.. some people in pageants aren’t.

You can see it in this poor girl… she had it all planned out.. she was all prepared, she had studied and she had a PLAN…...
1)      After the question is asked start by saying “Personally I believe”  (in order to buy some time to choose from list below)
2)      IF the question is about Anybody say the US should Help them….Yadda, Yadda, Yadda
3)      IF the question is about Africa say….Yadda, Yadda, Yadda
4)      IF the question is about Iraq say….Yadda, Yadda, Yadda
5)      IF the question is about Asia say….Yadda, Yadda, Yadda

And then they hit her with this question about MAPS? LOL her brain is stuck in a loop between Items 2 through 5 on the above list.. she’s short circuiting. Reminds me of the robot NOMAD on that old Star Trek episode where he finds out he has the wrong Captain Kirk.. his mission being to “eliminate that which is not perfect”, he made a mistake, so he must destroy himself… Error, error.. Error…

I’m just glad she didn’t EXPLODE!!

She did choke under pressure, and what she did say as an answer could have made a valid point, but she worded it completely wrong. If she said that with our education system being superior to such countries, now we are more focused on wars, and saving other countries, that we dont pay attention to things that matter like teaching the youth about reading a freakin map. I may be only 19 years old, but if I look at a map, I know where the hell I am and where Im going. Geography, at least when I was in school was a specific subject. She just had a brain lapse, and blurted out the first thing to come to mind. Notice how she trails off at the end and says "Um" alot. I would probably mess up under the same pressure. Funny nonetheless, but Im not going to criticize her for trying. Those pageants are just kiss ass contests anyway.

I agree with Jim, that so called poll was bogus. Jim we need 8 people to account for us knowing where the U.S. is on the globe.
