Well, I went and bought it. $650 bucks and I drove it home. I need some help with it though because I know NOTHING about the turbo or the system it has. Here are some pics.

here is one of the interior. After being cleaned I am sure it will look much better. The car has NO RUST WHATSOEVER! I was looking for some and couldn't find any. But the turbo doesn't spool up until like 2500 rpms or higher, plus it doesn't like to run after being started up initially. They look cool side by side in the garage together. Hopefully tomorrow I will have little Cougarbirds running around.:D

*edit* Yeah, I know, ghetto steering wheel, soon to be changed.
looks like a nice little car
Aside from mine having the leather interior and the TRX package, it looks like my old '84 XR-7. Good score.
As far as the steeing wheel goes...I should have a useable "proper" wheel with the Cougar logo..... ;)
Looks like this one...I had one in the XR-7...

Sure, I'll take it off your hands. Thats the kind a steering wheel my T-bird has. The only kind I like as far as the cougar and birds steering wheels are. More sporty looking I guess. Let me know how much via PM if your interested in getting rid of it. Thanks
brian
Very nice score
Nice score B man!
Let me dig it out and snap a couple pics. I try and snag these things whenever I can...they are hands down my favorite wheel...
Is there a certain model or year that these wheels came out? I have NEVER seen any other birds or cougars with them. I almost thought that I had something special but no one ever said anything. So of course, neither did I. You would be the man if you could get me one.
brian
Yeah, I got pretty lucky, though the wife is not too sure about it yet. As soon as I pulled it in the garage, it peed anti-freeze all over. :punchballs: Not the best thing to do in the new house. As soon as I get all the bugs worked out, she will be happier. So far the gas mileage is amazing in it. 109 miles and it hasn't dropped past the full marker yet! I am LOVING that. these 2.3t's may be what you all say they are....
brian
Congrats. Nice take and great price.
83-84 TC and 84 XR-7 only...as an option. I've seen both cars with the "std" wheel as well. Obviously cruise wasn't an option if you had one of these. However, my 84 XR-7 did have cruise, but it was mounted on the stalk and not the wheel. Perhaps it was dealer added.
I'll try and dig it out and get some pics tomorrow.
Thanks Chuck. I owe you.
brian
Not bad for 650 nice score
I have two of those wheels as well but the "spare" needs recovered
Oh and look at that...a flat console lid. While Chuck's had the taller one. The debate never ends. :D
Congrats on the purchase!
My 84 has cruise and I have the A frame steering wheel. That turbo should be a T-3. The biggest difference in the setup between it and a 5spd is the boost is cut down to help save the tranny. Being a 84 is should have the C3 tranny.
that's a great price! any questions you have about that motor can be answered. ask and you shall receive.
I have questions. The guy that I bought it off of sent it to the shop whenever he had an issue, except now. I will post them in the engine tech forum. thanks
brian
Nope...mine was the short one ;)
I was referring to the T-Bird photo you posted, Chuck. ;)
I thought you were referencing my old '84 XR-7.
Unless I've missed something, the '84 XR-7 was the first appearance of the short lid, correct?
Oh Jeesus....who knows LOL. We need to start getting part numbers from them though. I *think* one has to remove the lid, then remove the bottom plastic liner, and then the number is embossed or stamped in the underside of the lid. I do know that 1983 console lids carry a different part number than 1984-up (the taller lids) and physically they do look a little different. Otherwise I can't really say what was right or wrong, and what appeared when.
Eric, I can run out and get the part number off mine is ya need. I think* I have one tall cover from an 86 as well I can check
Ok, on the 84 cover, you just remove the little metal hindge on the back of it, the part number is there. From my car:
E4SB-63061866-AA
46415
S31503
Thats how it looks on it
Why the hell are you posting that in here?
It was brought up. I'll delete if you want. Sorry
We'll start a new thread in the correct section...just leave the info in for now.
Nice! Now take the 'Bird off the market, you'll love having a matched pair!
Brian,
Congrats on the purchase!
When you get a moment, could you see what the build date & exterior color code is?
Thanks,
Brent
:cougarsmily:
Sweet :D
All the Turbo cars by me are rusted to hell:mad:
Yes, it is the c3, as soon as I get home(if it lasts that long) I am getting rid of that little monster.
I would love to do this. But it is just not possible at this time. God would I love to do that. I have always dreaded the day the Bird must go. But it is for the better. I will build another, I promise.;)
Absolutely I will do this for you. As soon as you tell me where to find it. My Bird has not tags or stickers or anything. I know there is one on the door and under the hood. Let me know which it is you want and I will get it......screw it. I'll take pics of them both for ya....
here ya go.

Looks like 2J/Standard Midnight (Medium) Canyon Red and 1Q/Clearcoat Silver Metallic which would be an un-documented combo i assume. :hick:
Interior is: GJ/Oxford Grey
Trans is: V/C-3 Auto
Hope it turns out awesome like your Ol' 'Bird!
Thanks Brian,
With the build date of May 1984, this would further confirm Eric's thoughts about the late addition of that color combo.
Brent
:cougarsmily:
Yeah, it will be. Promise;) For right now though I just want it as transportations to and fro.
No problem.
brian
My 5.0 does that too :D .
Haha nice score man. It should clean up really nice and serve as a great DD.
I buffed the paint out and it turned out kinda nice. In some spots the paint is REALLY thin from fading. I had to ware overhauls so I didn't get red shiznit all over me. I will post some before and after pictures today if it clears up a little bit. More work on it this weekend.
brian
Thanks again for all the comments everyone!
