...or I've got grapes. I was poking about the back of the lot today down near where I buried Igor and noticed some strange vines growing among the wild cherry trees. The leaves look kinda like maple leaves, and the vine is HUGE, reaching almost to the top of the trees and covering a huge area. I moved a few leaves aside and lo-and-behold, I found what appears to be grapes. Looks like I've got a vinyard that I didn't even know about. They're not ripe yet, and I was afraid to eat one, but I broke one open and they've got seeds in 'em just like grapes...
There's like a million of these things growing on the vine. I told my mother about it and she's gonna take a look next time she's over (she had grape vines on the farm she grew up on). She's all excited - she wants to make jam.
More pics - you can see how big this vine-bush thing is (that's Murphy in one of the pics, wondering what I'm doing down that end of the property). The small reddish berries are semi-ripe wild cherries (there are also blackberries and raspberries galore). If you like berries this place is paradise...
Looks more like elderberries (good jam) or polk berries (not good anything except purple dye).
That looks like a grapevine to me.

Those are indeed grapes, got them all over the place arround here, they rare or something in Canada?

Yeppers... grapes it is!
I live in the middle of vineyards...literally. They are behind our house, in front of our house (across the road), to the left of the house and to the right... we be in the middle of Grape Country! LOL

Jim...
Grapes aren't exactly rare here (there are actually some fairly large and famous wineries about here) but they are uncommon, especially to just pop up out of nowhere (I'm sure there were no grapes there last year).
LittleAngel: I don't think they're wild. The leaves look different in those pics, and the clusters are definitely larger than 12 - some of them look like 20-30. Here's a pic of a wild grape from that site you posted:

Note how roundish the leaves look - the leaves on my grapes almost look like maple leaves.
They are definetly grapes. I have them growing in my back yard with my apples trees. I also have what I think are strawberries.
Thanks to the title of this thread I may never eat another grape... :)
I realize the photos are different, however, you can be sure they are grapes. We have them growing here too...there are different species of wild grapes, that site just gave photos of one species.

The harvest is in... my mom's gonna make grape jelly with 'em :headbang:
I think I got 'em just in time, some were starting to turn into raisins. The frost probably got to 'em, as even some of the green ones were shriveling.
oooo how much for a jar? :hick:
SWEET!
You need to make wine sometime!
