Title: Bad Few Weeks for the Cat! PICS!!!
Post by: DVP on June 11, 2007, 03:01:36 PM
well about 3 1/2 weeks ago i tapped this guy on the exit ramp of 2-70. the road was empty an he started goin so i looked to see if i was clear an bam! so i broke my 'plate frame an bent the 'plate up.
--My Fault
then i got new brakes on the front of my car. Needed them bad. we adjusted my rears at the same time. well when i dropped it off the stands in the rear i never tightened down the lugs again. shiznit! so now i think i bent on of them
--My Fault
last Thursday i got home around 1-130 ( saw Knocked Up great movie). that night/morning someone tried to break into my car. think they wanted to steal it for the fact they tried to steal the neighbors the same night. they F^#&'d my quarter window trim.
So Sunday night I when out to Hallo St., one of the places we race around here an there was a white 87-88 cougar an i went out to race him well after i crossed over the RR tracks and I passed him so i went to make a U-turn ( the way we all do and i looked to make sure i was clear. I started to slow down anmake my turn. i was clear but ther was a car behimd me. well he decided that he wanted to pass me on the side i was turning too. well he relized what was going on and hit his brakes. and slid into me. when i looked out at his car i saw his headlight hanging and his bumper was draging plus he was leaking Washer fluid. so i was sure my car was screwed. well mt fender is beat up put nothing compared to his car. I asked him what he wanted to do an he said lets call the cops. and started yellin about how it was my fault. I got pissed and started so support my case. He hit me so his fault by law. So I asked himk do you even have insurance? He said he did but it wasnt his car. So we argued for bout 5 mins and he said he called the cops some where in there. I didnt care either way i was legal. So he realized he didnt have a good point, and left. So hit and run. but i just let it slide. I was at fault also. So over all Bad Month for my car but now i'm making thing better no matter what!

Hmmm.... ya know, I would almost have sympathy for you, except for that last incident. You sound like a little kid saying "But mom, all the kids are doing it". You were making a u-turn after racing, and while you admit fault, you still thought the other guy was in the wrong.

Wrong. First, did you use a turn signal? Second, you were making an illegal u-turn. Do you really think for one second that a judge would say you were in the right on that? You were just as much at fault as he was in the whole thing. The minute a cop would have come and found out you were racing and making an illegal turn, you'd have had a ticket. I know, I know, you think he wouldn't know about the racing, but he'd find out, probably from the guy that hit you. Stupidity at it's finest. It's sad that you treat a fine piece of Cat like you do.

Well I dont know about other states but here in PA it IS legal to do a U-turn if as long as there is not a sign that says no U-turns. Though if he didnt use a turn signal it would still be his fault.

Pretty much anywhere it's illegal to do a U-Turn in front of somebody and get hit. I think that kinda falls into the category of pulling out in front of somebody.
I suppose you could TRY to use the defense "but I was making a LEGAL U-Turn" just not sure how well that would fly with the cop or the judge.
What I find odd is how this site support's, accepts, encourages Illegal street racing by having a Forum dedicated to it. http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16 (http://"http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16") For people to boast there triumphs while breaking the law and risking innocent lives?
And the list goes on and on... just Google "Street racing deaths"
This deal here with Cougar86_89 is a good example, this could have been so much worse.
I'm all for racing our cars, but racing at the track has regulations, the regulations are there for a reason, to save lives.
I feel it's irresponsible of the members of this site to promote street racing as well as the administrators.
What next? a Drunk Driving forum "How far did you get smashed out of your mind? How many cops did you pass without getting caught?"
And I'm not holier than thou as I'm guilty of street racing myself. I also have two DWI's to my name. I just like to think I’m a bit older and wiser these days. I always thought “well that stuff wouldn’t happen to me” when the fact is the whole time I was simply one wrong decision away from killing myself or someone else.
Just my opinion, I’m stuck with it, you guys aren’t!

The funny part is that when he wrecked, he wasn't racing anybody, so I dont know what the deal is. What if he realized he had passed his turn, so went to make a U Turn there? It wouldnt have turned out any differently.

First off as mentioned before IT'S LEGAL to do a U-turn if u follow proper procedure and there are no signs telling you otherwise. The guy who hit him IS in fault and so was Cougar86_89 as he admitted, if you hit a car you are guaranteed you will be at fault whether it's 50/50 or 75/25, no matter what the other driver you hit does. Secondly who cares if he was racing if it is done out in some country roads with know one around i don't see the problem. If it's in the city streets then your risking other peoples lives which is a no no.

As i said before it is LEGAL to do a U-turn if there are no signs that say no U-turn(atleast in PA not sure of other states) and the person behind him pulled into the other lane to pass him. It wouldn't be any different than if he was making a left turn onto a road or into a parking lot, as long as he used a turn signal.

I don't know where he is from, he doesn't have a state listed. However, the fact is, he was racing, and he hasn't said if he used a turn signal or not. Either way, he was still partly at fault.

hell I street race quite a bit, but where we go is out in the country. There is a road here just outside of town that has actually been prepped with traction compound. The road is over 1.5miles long and NO houses at all on it, so there is no chance of hurting anybody our yourself, unless a deer runs out, but that is a minor technicality.
Most people are smart enough on here not to do that thing in a city or around traffic so I dont think whinning about the forum's street racing section is realistic especially when you are guilty of doing it as you said Miller. it is funning when someone hears the words street racing, what do you think of? I think of those idiots with farrt cannon civics thinking they are fast, and weave in and out of four lanes of traffic. That is dangerous and plain stupid. but a drag race in the country? nothing wrong with it.

STL = St. Louis
If the other guy left his lane to go around him it is his fault. Here in IL there is a policy that if you hit someone from behind its their fault no matter what happened.
This guy went out and around him and hit him from behind. So it would be his fault. Plus whos to say this guy wasn't trying to get in on the racing action.

Fault can be determined fairly easily. Forget the turn signal business, forget the u-turn and forget the street racing.
If cougar86_89, pulled to the side of the road and stopped, it is his responsibility to check to see if it is safe to re-enter traffic before doing so. If he was stopped and then pulled the turn, he is at fault. He took away the other guy's right of way.
Now if he had just slowed down and didn't stop and the guy tried to pass, it would be the guy's fault for making an illegal pass.
Fault isn't (atleast in MD) determined by who hits who. It is determined by who had right of way. My dad was in an accident a couple years back where a truck pulled from a side street infront of him. My dad was the flow of traffic, this truck was entering. The guy pulled out and my dad hit him head on. My dad hit this guy but it was the guys fault for not pulling into traffic when it was safe, taking my dad's right of way.
Unfortunately, this is the internet and we are rarely at fault for what we do since nobody was there but the person posting. That said, it's pretty much a dead issue.
Cougar86_89, I'm sorry for the bad luck you've been having with the car and all. Just don't give up on it and keep plugging away to make it better.

I didn’t feel that expressing my opinion was "whining" but simply relaying how I felt about it. Your Opinion is different than mine so would that make you whining by your definition? And yes I am guilty of street racing years ago. Lower River Road, out in the country behind Vancouver Lake. 1/8th and 1/4 all laid out, had a generator to run the tree, couple mile stretch of road with no houses straight as an arrow, nearly every Friday and Sat. night. Difference is I’m man enough to admit I was wrong, to admit as much as I thought I knew everything in my early to mid 20’s just possibly I didn’t. Sorry to say it took hearing of two head on collisions (when I wasent there) and witnessing one (when I was) at Lower River Road before I came to that realization.
But hell that’s on our old country road drag strip, could never happen at yours because you guys are well “smart enough”… at least “most” of you are.
As I said before “Just my opinion, I’m stuck with it, you guys aren’t!”

well most people are smart enough to let off and abort the race when a car comes down the road but I guess not everybody is.
Sorry Jim, I didn't mean to tick you off. just stated my opinions too. I haven't actually street raced since I had my red '90 LX coupe. it ran low 13's@101MPH on the track. That was about 3 or 4 years ago. I guess we all just grow out of it. I did actual get in a sprint run on the QEW a couple weeks ago against a 5.0L Stang. We ran side by side til we caught up to traffic, at about 120km/h (speed limit is 100) then let off and nodded to each other. Your right it can be dangerous.
I know if somebody challenges me now adays I tell them to meet me at the track on the weekends, but if that isn't good enough, I tell them to meet me out at that road with there ownership signed and ready to hand over. that is usually enough to deter them. There is absolutely NO WAY a car can get in a head on wreck where we do it. The road has no acess routes except on either end. so if the person racing is too dumb to let off and abort the run, they aren't bright enough to even be allowed to drive, period.
No offense meant man.

You should be able to pull that fender and push the dent out from the inside. It may leave some small creases in the sheet metal, but it could have been worse, I suppose.

Bad part, bent up fender.Good part, bent up fenders are easier to replace than bent up doors, and the fenders are easy to find.
