So i've been driving this 1994 Caprice Classic for awhile now, it has the L99 4.3 V8, and the electronic-controlled tranny.
First off, I'm a through and through Ford guy, but this car is not too bad. Compared to the '88 K1500 I was driving, this car is tits-up.
I've street raced it, I've had it to 110, and it's as stable at that speed as it is at 60. Decent mileage, comfy, and the 4.3 makes about 200HP, and 235 lb.-ft.
It'll whip a stock 5.0 Tbird/Cougar's ass....let alone one with the 3.8 :flame:
So all this bitchin' about Ford vs. Chevy vs. what-the-f*ck-ever.....?
Who gives a salty shiznit!? I don't anymore.
I for one am tired of it all...like the guy who had the 'rod with the sbc...
Back in the day, 350's were more common than Ford engines...so therefore cheaper to modify. Not only that, Chevy was first to put an ohv V8 in a mass-production vehicle.
Would I put a GM engine in a newer Ford car? NO.
But I sure would stick a built 350 in a kit car aka 'rod..or something like that.
To me...it's all about modding the cars..right?
It's a hot rod...therefor....WHY!?!? does it HAVE to have a Ford engine!?
Stick a 3-hole Geo Metro engine in it for all I car. YOUR car, not mine.
Is a Tbird a hot rod? NO! so keep the Ford engines for such, and leave the fella alone about his choice of powerplant!
Here's a novel thought...how about a Camaro with a 351 Cleveland?
I bet the GM fans would scream and piss and moan....yet...they'd (mostly) respect the Cleveland power...
Just my Sunday rants....feel free to rant right back...i welcome it! :D
BTW....my Caprice can beat your STOCK 5.0/3.8 Fox bodies, and with a smaller engine.
oh...and no, I haven't gave up on Ford stuff. My username is STILL Fordtruckfreeek! :D
My last sentiment, then I'll get off me soapbox:
When a new import car with a turbo 4 banger, 4 cams, and a 6 speed can outrun, out accelerate, and just outperform a stock 87-93 Stang 5.0.....well...THIS cat doesn't mind imports so much.
It's the whole attitude that "i gots me some phat(ass) rims yo, and 3500 watts of audio, and 20-something inch wheels...and...etc etc.."
THAT'S what the f*ck I dislike about the imports.
But y'all know....some of us here....are the same goded way about anything NOT stamped FoMoCo.
Lighten up. If bitchin' or insulting is all ya got to say about someone, or in this case, their car, shut up.
"Nuff said.
Peace all. ;)
Hey, :iagree:
Where is the popcorn smiley? :beatyoass:
'Nuff Said ;)
Amen. I agree 110%.
Agreed. But I'll take ya up on that race sometime man. My bird to your caprice:flame:
In my name:
1996.5 Nissan Pickup powered by a Nissan 2.4L 4-Cyl
1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo powered by a Ford 2.3L Turbo
1987 Ford Thunderbird Sport with a 5.0SO
In the garage:
AMC 401 V8 with a Jeep T179 bellhousing and a T5 trans. With all the hardware and hydraulic clutch to drop it in a TC.
2001 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3800 Series II V6 that would smoke the snot out of any stock fox Bird/Cat and my old SHO. It's not even the supercharged one!
John's cars in or around my house:
2005 Pontiac GTO with a GM corporate LS2 V8 (which has NOTHING in common with a SBC)
1984 Porsche 944 with a 2.5L 4-banger
1984 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe with no motor that's getting an LT1/T56 swap in a year, and an LS1/T56 a few after that.
1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe with a 2.3T
1979 Ford Ranchero GT with a 302 and C4
Neighbor's car I'm responsible for:
1959 Buick Electra 4-door pillarless hardtop with a Buick 401 nailhead V8
I like *almost* all makes/brands/etc. I'm a non-denominational car nut. I could care less who makes/made it and whether or not it's original. In the past I've owned a Camaro, an RX7, a Subaru, a Javelin, etc, etc. I like engine swaps and I like being different. The only brand I cannot stand is VW, and that's simply from a mechanic's view (horrible engineering, designed to be "disposable cars"). I even like Hyundai's!
That being said, the next person to moan about Chevies in a Ford will be beaten with a 2.3T head while I stab the 401 in Layla. I'm tired of everybody else trying to influence MY car.
MY CAR
He said STOCK Tbirds/Cougars. ;)
In my driveway is: 93 Chevy S10, 88 Ford Thunderbird, 04 Honda Accord, and an 85 Pontiac Trans Am. They're all great :) .
hehe, you're on!
Looser buys dinner. All I need to run it is paperwork..... You win......
I'll have a T-bone, baked tater, and about 2 gallons of iced tea...
LOL.
Nahh, we'd best call it a draw, I ain't got the funds to get out to where y'all are. Be a neat race, wonder what you car is makin as far as power..?
Btw, the "whale" shuts off at 109....:hick: if your's can do 110...you'd win.. haha
The vic would.... 140 MPH Police Intercepter
i used to be 100% ford but now i have respect for chevy, and other names and some imports, no ricers though.
Mine cuts out at 110 (Mark VII computer) :hick:
Anyone know if/when the 5 speed Stang computer cuts off?
Now you're talkin' my language :D
The A9L (most popular 5 speed ECU code from '89-'93) has the on & off limits both set at 127.5 MPH. In other words, there is no speed limiter :D
So yer saying my car won't go any faster than that? One more reason to ditch the ecm.
You show me that 'Vic goin 140, and I'll send you a case of beer!
Sorry, but I gotta call bullshiznit here...No 3500 pound car with the aero of a brick is gonna do 140 mph with a less-than 200 hp engine.
Unless...you have some mods done to it...even then....it'll be a bitch.
hes got mods done to it
Good info, thanks. I think mine is an 87 or 88 computer, though. Are those the same, or did it change along with MAF?
lol, not saying he doesn't, BUT....a 20-something year old car...more importantly, on tires probably not rated for those speeds....nahhh....it's not important, I'd not race him...by the time he got to that speed, I'd be far enough ahead he'd not be able to catch me..unless we're running for like a mile.
That Caprice has a good ratio in the rear..;)
It has acceleration that I've not ever felt in a big 4 door car...and I've been in a shiznitload of big cars.
Tomorrow evening, when traffic is non-existent...out at the end of my gravel road, there's a nice long straight spot of highway, about 2 miles long, I'll measure off a 1/4 mile, time myself, and post back here. I've got a good stopwatch.
Never thought about doing it till now.
BTW, the same version of this car....the 1994-1996 Impala SS, with the LT1.....would smoke a stock Stang GT of the same year.
"Son....you just gotcher ass handed to you by a grandma's car."
fancy talk for "heavy duty suspenion package"
thats about it:D
shiznit,, id hand your ass back to you in my mother in law's 96 kia sophia,, thats a fast assssssss car.
who cares anyway..?
That comment should go both ways.
I posted my Smurf blue '86 Chevy C10 on this Ford board, knowing full well I'd get ribbed. Roll wit i', byes.
If you don't want your car looked at and commented on, don't post pictures of it. This is a message board. The entire point of having a 'Post Reply' button is to allow people to offer up their opinions.
For those of you who can't understand that, this is for you. Welcome to planet earth where people have opinions and a tendancy to share them. We're not here to kiss arse.

of the same year, yeah id agree. but an 87-93 fox stick car no. they are only like a high 15 sec car at best im pretty sure. they are dang heavy.
i love cars...its the people that ruin alot of it for me. i love my fords. i love mustangs and fox tbirds the most. i hear a stang with an exhaust scootin by and my ears perk up every time. that doesnt mean i dont love, respect and geek right out over all kinds of cars trucks etc out there. i dont know why but i just cant get excited obout say late 80s early 90s irock weather its the cleanest one out there or a 400hp door slammer. just doesnt do it for me. some cars out there are just repulsive. doesnt mean they arent sweet rides.
i also love these guys that brag about their buddys, brothers, uncles whoevers car like its there own. who cares. thats just retarded. i mean its cool if someone you know has a sweet car or whatever but you get those guys who...well you know, you have all heard it.
I say it like I see it. I saw a kid in a sandbox with a major pout on in that thread.
That's cool. I appreciate your candor. It will be remembered.
You see what I did there? How I overreacted to something that really shouldn't have bothered me at all, then made someone feel like shiznit for speaking their mind?
My entire point is, 'don't take it to heart'. So don't take it to heart, man. ;)
We're men. We're all assholes underneath, it's just a matter of buying a guy a pint after he's just busted your lip and you've just knocked out his tooth.
I have a 71 Monte Carlo with a 350 and a 73 Nova with a TPI out of a 89 Firebird, an 80 K10 mud truck with a 2brl 305 also hangs out here when I want to get dirty.
Ford schmord I own my cougars because its a tie to a good friend.
I own my TC because I love the car. I also love my Truck (even thought it's the one that isn't running right now. How bass-ackwards is that?).
The fact that they have different badging means absolutely nothing to me.
And remember cougar5.0, everyone in that thread loved your car. I didn't post there but I have to agree with them. It's gorgeous and looks like a blast to rip around in. I too hope you repost the pictures. I won't rag on you for the SBC because it's what I have in my pickup, and they're great engines for the most part. Besides, the point has more than been made.
(you guys should see this shiznit I go through on the Tuner board I post on. Every time a noob doesn't like one of my comments he starts talking smack about my 'ragged-ass domestic boat gas-guzling corner roller' as if I will start crying and leave the thread. I'm accepted because I speak my mind, admit when I'm wrong [you wouldn't believe how rare that is], and have a turbo 4-banger. :P )
Now we're talkin :hick: I'd love to have a pint about now. I'm sure I'd be really thirsty after a 42 hour drive too :D
My best friends have always been folks who I've had knock-down drag out brawls with.
:brick: :drink: men :grinno:
I am presently putting together some pics of the old 'Bucket (I looked different 20 years ago - it was also sad to see that my ex was quite attractive back then - thus reminding me why I married her :( ), the "progress" I had made on rebuilding it (rolling chassis w/32 year old 350 that still runs like a charm) and some new pics of the "replacement" 'Bucket that I took which show the red a little better.
Funny, I had forgotten what it was like owning a 'Bucket, but it's all coming back to me now :hick: . Chicks and kids love it. Men come by (this just happened yesterday) and say "why the **** did he remove the mechanical fuel pump" etc., etc... He couldn't stop finding flaws with it. Then I remembered that men are a competitive bunch...
I own my T-bird because of 2 things.
1. V8 RWD
and
2. The profile of the car reminds me of my favorite car.

For those that dont know what it is(which i imagine is the majority because its old and not very popular) it is my 1980 Toyota Celica
