Hah, I guess it's an uncommon car. If I was independently wealthy, I'd buy it, it's a neat, wierd piece of 80's history. Just like the 1.6 (I think) Turbo EXP's of the early 80's.
It probably get like 60mpg also.
DIESEL escort!!!!???? OMG i cant stop laughing. i just cant imagine that. someone should buy it and get a banks/bullydog kit and do intake and exhaust and all that and make a diesel hotrod escort!!!:hick:
(i cant help it thats honestly the first thing i think of when someone i know is like "im lookin at a f250 diesel" or something. i seriously want to do that someday, hot rod a diesel)
b/c 42 MPG
At least that is the only thing good I can see about buying it. Although 4,500 is a stretch.
People laugh when we pay that money for a cougar or thunderbird.
Diesel Escorts are fairly uncommon, let alone in that nice of condition. It's easily worth it. If I had 4400 bucks, I'd buy it.
44 mpg and thousands upon thousands of miles of reliability sure are hard to beat in these days of $3/gallon gas and expensive-to-maintain newer vehicles.
Plus...you know how easy it is to "make" your own bio-diesel??
Like I said, I'd sure as hell nab it if I had that much.
If only it were a turbo diesel.
I've had a couple diesel escorts. The mazda 2.0l they have are very good motors. And $4000+ isn't a surprize for that car if you have been watching any other compact diesels on ebay. My buddy sold an early 80's rabbit diesel for $3200 and that had 130k miles.
When you see gas prices skyrocket, the diesels sell for big $$$.
Look to see how much rabbit pickups are selling for.
$ 5,300.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT THE.........????????????????????????
A 4 door Diesel Escort sells for $ 5,300....gotta be a record !!!!!!!!!
The seller has got to be laughing his ass off !!
My guess is that he isn't laughing. He's probably going to use the cash for a down payment on a Prius.
21 years old and only 33k miles and in excellent shape, I can see 5,300 easily.
Good luck to the new owner trying to find replacement parts for that car.
I had a 5 speed 84 Lynx that got 35 mpg.
If a diesel gets 43 mpg and the cost difference between a gallon of gas and a gallon of diesel is at $.30-.$.40........then the total number of miles that car would have to be driven just to break even on driving expenses, has got to be tens of thousands of miles to justify the purchase price of $ 5,300.
I can see someone paying that much for an essentially new, almost classic, neat-because-it's-odd diesel Escort, but it wouldn't be me. I'd buy a late 90's turbo diesel Golf or Jetta instead. In fact, when I sell the Volvo I'll be leaning in that direction - you guys think your $3/gallon gas is expensive, we're paying over $4!
I wonder how hard it would be to turbo a non-turbo diesel Escort. An IHI, some plumbing, maybe an intercooler, and presto: 75 horsepower! :hick: Joking apart, it couldn't be that hard, and it would make the car almost drivable...
