Title: New Member - Hello (smiles, waves)
Post by: Helen Courtney on January 30, 2007, 11:54:48 PM
Hello Everyone,

I've spent a couple of hours scanning several of the forums while my membership cleared.  I'm glad I found an active forum with knowledgable and motivated folks.  That thread on rescaling a stock speedo to a 140 mph showed creativity and group effort.  I hope that now that I'm a member someone will share a pic of the 140 faceplate I could work with;  the pdf files (archived) don't have any.

I cropped down a pic I took last year of my ride.  It still looks pretty much the same.  It's rather rough now,  but it gets me where I gotta go and chrome don't get you home anyway.  :)

I recently had a new rear axle assembly installed.  I thought what I wanted should have read 3T55 on the lower left and 7.5, lower right of the tag on the banjo.  What I got said 3SL55 on the left and the right was not too legible.  Next time it's up I'll get the tag off, clean it up and post a pic.  Well,  it is quiet and smooth and the mechanic said it's the limited slip unit so I'm happy.  I had that same job done about 4 years ago and the creep that did it put a 8.8 dia ring gear and some tall rear end from a Mustang in it.  The car ran poorly and the thing leaked even after I changed the seal.  I think I made out well this time.

So, that's the current stuff.  I live in eastern PA.  I bought the car used at 31 K and now the odo reads 215 K.  Lotta miles and all a joy even when it's running rough.  I'll never give up my bird!

Welcome to the forum.  As you have already found, there is a lot of creativity here.  We are a modest bunch without the arrogance often found in other car communities.
Noticed you said eastern PA, there are a number of forum members who live in the Philly area.

Howdy!

I know there's a picture of a 140 mph speedo somewhere...actually if you go look in the Vendor's forum (and you'll have to look at posts from the last 45 days), look at the post by Panther37 about the custom gauge faces, in his first post he has a link to PDF's with stock speedos on it and there's a 140 face in there.

Hi and thanks for the welcome.  I found this link (http://"http://www.coolcats.net/tech/advanced/140speedo.html") to a concise description of the conversion and a link to a useable faceplate.  I'm surprised no one has done this mode and offered it on ebay.  There was some talk of such when the thread first developed.

Here (http://"http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/techarticles.html") is a good article on the calibration of the swap.

If you get a hold of this guy (http://"http://natomessageboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=015141#000005"), he will do the conversion and calibrate it for a price. (he can get them down to +/- 2mph in the range from 25 to 120 mph)

For cookies? I'd drive half cross the country for that, but since it's only halfway cross the state, you can BET I'll be there.

I hope they have oatmeal cinnamon cookies.
