Title: Every day I find something cool
Post by: TucanSam on January 28, 2007, 09:31:47 PM
When I bought my 86TC I received 4 sets of keys.  Today I noticed that they had always carried a set of the copy keys in thier pockets.  The 2 oem sets that say turbo on them are in mint condition and look to be hardly used.

How cool is that?

Never knew TC keys said turbo on them.. I find that to be cooler actually haha.  But seriously, when I sold my bird, I forgot to give the kid the other set, which was actually rarely ever used, and are in near perfect condition.  I kinda consider them my memento of the car.

If I remember right, my '86 XR-7 key had the ford oval on one side and "turbo" on the other.

Here are some uncut keys I found on eBay. One of them is a remake, but the other is an original from the '80s that was never cut. I think it's the trunk key that is original.
The keys that came with my '86 XR-7 are identical to these.

When chnging out the steel front bumper for an aluminum one on my 80 a few years ago I found one of those magnetic key holders stuffed inside it with 3 original like new keys in it.

The original's were a made of a semi-hard rubber material and the aftermarket keys are a hard plastic material.
I still have my orginal keys, but they aren't as soft as they were years ago.
A few years ago, I ordered a new ignition lock set from Ford and it came with the correct original rubber material keys.

I know that the '85-'88 cars came with these keys, but does anyone know if the '83-'84 cars did?
I asked a friend of mine who bought an '84 TC new and he doesn't remember them being any different than a regular Ford key.
