Title: my 86 cougar
Post by: big ron on November 13, 2006, 12:13:54 PM
im new to the site. this is my first post. i just wanna show off my cougar. im the second owner. it is fully loaded with all options except power antenna and over drive. owned the car for 10 years and its till going strong. I'm not sure if this is a Bostonian Edition or a blue max because of the color. ive only seen 2 of these but one was black and the other was dark gray and silver. the car has a 3.8 v6, 98,000 miles on it, and best driving and riding car ive ever had. let me know what you think of it.

thanks.  Big Ron
gotta love the cat! :cougarsmily:

That's crazy.  Who would order everything but the antenna and the AOD tranny?

i really don;t know but i'm kinda glad it don;t have overdrive . seems like overdrive go's out on the older fords . and power antennas usually quit working . but this car has one of the best sounding  factory stereo for 1986 its am fm cass with equalizer  6 speakers .

When I bought my '86 I had been looking for a couple months for another TC. I kept finding Cougars but I didn't like the chopped off look in the back. But, the more I looked at them the more I started to like it. Still, I was hot for that 2.3L Turbo. Then I found an '86 XR-7 turbo in black on red leather and I was hooked. Couple months later I kept seeing '87s & '88s and liked them even better.

You'd have to put a gun to my head to get me to even think about selling my '88. Even then I might just tell you to pull the trigger. :D

Very nice '86. I love the color.

I'm not sure if it's "fully loaded." As far as options go, you're missing:
-Sunroof/moonroof
-Keyless entry
-Cornering lamps
-Vent windows
-Leather

But, it's still a very nice car.

your right ! no sunroof, keyless entry. cornering lamps, vent windows, or leather.  no overdrive, no power antenna. but has 6 way power seat with consol p/w,p/l,p/m,p/b,p/s,rear window defroster, dual visor vanity mirrors,a/c auto control, autopark brake release, cruise control, leather wrap steering wheel, auto lamp on/off,interval wipers, auto light dimmer, auto dim rear view mirror for night time driving, am/fm/cass/eqlizer/6 speakers, thats seems to be alot of stuff . still wish i knew if it is a bostonian, but the color blue and silver makes it look like a max.original owner worked for lincoln/mercury here in orlando. this is a awesome car.

City Editions (1985-88)                                                  These limited-edition Cats featured a vinyl half-roof, special ornamentation, and a special striping package that were offered to Ford dealers by aftermarket suppliers. They were marketed all over the U.S and Canada and were not limited to the 1983-88 era either; they were produced right up until the 1997 model year. Some examples of City Edition Cougars are the Bostonian, Coloradan, and Houstonian. Naturally the cars were sold in the vicinity of the car's city or region name. There were probably many more cities or regions that took part in this series of cars. Total production is unknown but there seems to be quite a few of them around.

So is there an edition for every major city? It sounds like a cool model though. if it is one nice find.

The editions are just dealer added emblems and things of that nature.

The luggage rack may also be a dealer-installed item separate of the package.
A dealer installed a luggage rack on my '96 before I bought it, but it looked like a factory part... until I saw poor installation of it from the underside of the trunk lid.

Your car would be clearly marked if it was a fancy edition or such..

My 88 has big red "special edition" badges in three spots...

there's no badges  but the cougar badge in front of the hood, its just a  round black badge with the cougar .
