i just changed my oil. i pit in max life 10-40 and there is a bad knock now. what do you think the knock is coming from? i thought it was lifter chatter/knock
You have enough oil in it right?!?!
Is it a knock that gets louder/worse as engine speed increases? If so it might be a rod knock. If it's kind of a tick, tick, tick, sound at idle it could be the lifters. Did it make any noise before the oil change or is this a new thing?
its a ticking noise. thats why i also thought it was something with the lifters. it made a little noise, but its pretty bad when i changed the oil. thats the only thing you can here now.

Is this the first time you've changed the oil since you had the car? If so the previous owner might have added some heavy oil to quiet the engine down before you bought it.
Agreed, I usually put 20w-50 in mine.
My lifters are bad in the '88 and the heavier oil does help shut them up a bit.
my family got the car about 6 to 7 years ago. and we change the oil about every 5000 miles or so.
Still sounds like the lifters to me. Mine was quiet up until August 2004 but then started ticking lightly and over the next three months got louder and louder.
How is your oil pressure?
my oil pressure is fine. so should i just get new rockers?
Well the rockers arent gonna help you any when its the lifters that are making the noise.
Lifters will cost you ~$100 from Summit.
I vote for lifters but that's without hearing it for myself.
Might want get input from a trustworthy mechanic, if there is such a thing for you.
