Title: Busy day for the spammers, new rule in place
Post by: Thunder Chicken on September 04, 2006, 10:51:13 PM
Today has been an exceptionally busy day for the spammers! I have booted about a dozen new users in the last 6 hours, and luckily I've gotten all of them but one before they actually posted spam (and the one I missed didn't really post spam, he just had a spammy signature). I've been using methods of my own invention to identify spammers (these methods will not be revealed else the spammers find a way around them), but to hep me nail them before they post I have made a new setting in the board software:

From here on out, all new users must be approved by me personally. I will be notified whenever there is a new user, and I will then apply my own spam investigation on them before approving them. Only after I am satisfied that they are legit will they be approved for posting. Thankfully, because our "community" is so small I can handle this (we realy only have about one or two legitimate new users per week).

Let's hope my latest shot at the spammers sinks their ship... or at least discourages them from calling at this port:evilgrin:
