6.0 is the way to go plenty of power for towing. The 4.6 and 5.4 are only good for dressing up and making sound good!
it does sound good...turns heads that's for sure...

get the 6.0 with a stick. For about the same price as an H.O. swap you can get some good power out of them.
stick ones are hard to find, the one i really want has one...the super duty diesel will last a hell of alot longer lmao

I think most of the problem is that when the plugs get changed, people don't always use anti-seize. Then the next time you change plugs, it messes the threads up on the heads (since they are aluminum) and you are basically f'ed from there. I've also heard of people pulling plugs before the motor is fully cooled down and messing up the heads.
Like I said I've had two ('01 supercrew 4x4 and my current '99 supercab 4x4) and both have been pretty good trucks. I have had small annoying issues here and there (rear brake problems, axle bearing, leaking rear diff, rust in door seams, ball joints), but overall they have been reliable. My '99 only averages 14 mpg or so...but hey its 4x4 so what do you expect?
actually guys the heads has been the only problem other than that it has been a real good truck. put 40k of towing, hauling, other random beatings on it...had 18-20 mpg on the highway before, usually gets around 14-16mpg on my everyday trips

my question is Did they fix the head problems with the '05 up 3valve engines? if they did i might consider another f150 with similar towing package.
also looking at f250-f350 power strokes 7.3 or 6.0, and also dodge 25-3500 with a hemi or 5.9 cummins. Saw what i thought was the ultimate rig, a '03 f250 4x4 6.0 diesel, with a 6spd man, supercab, 8ft bed dk green, 1 owner with 75k for 16k.
also been toying with the idea to rebuild the 5.4 with ported heads, better cams ect...what do you guys think?

If you can, find a local guy that rebuild auto trans, or even check out a performance auto trans specialist.
Course, if you need the vehicle ASAP, this is a moot point, but just sayin'.
Also, some salvage yards will give a guarantee on drivetrain parts, but then again...never know what you're gonna get with a j/y part.
most from j/y only come with a 30-90 day warr...once and awhile you may find a rebuilt one, or a low mileage one. best bet is to take it to a local shop and have them rebuild it.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / I found a set of GST ground Effects
Quote from: jpc647;297927
I was at a local swap meet this weekend and I ran into a man with a ton of mustang stuff, and a small pile of 2.3l turbo stuff. I started talking with him and he had a set of thunderbird GST effects wrapped up in cardboard. He showed them to me, they weren't the greatest. THey had quite a few cracks in them, and there were small chips/ pieces missing al throughout the side skirt and front bumper pieces.
They were marked $2000. I could not believe it, after talking with me he told me the lowest he would go would be $1800. Maybe its just be, but this seemed ridiculous. 1800 for a set of mediocre effects seems way way overpriced. I mean you can get a decent 87-88 thunderbird for $2000!
Just thought I would post and see what everyone else had to say.
wow...i could see $500 maybe but that's nuts!! which meet did you go to? i went to thompson, and lake compounce *bristol* CT sunday. picked up a set of springs for the stock car for $10, and a couple of bill elliott thunderbird models. didn't get to finish thompson. lake compounce was SWAMPED. found a svt lightning 5.4 v8 supercharger setup for $500.
