I've been searching for replacement body panels as I am starting to tackle the rust on my bird this winter. I cam across US body fiberglass panels and was wondering if anybody has any experience with them? My trunk lid is toast, if someone has a source for steel panels I would appreciate it. If I go the fiberglass route does the trunk need to be pinned down or can I use the stock latch/hinges?
I have a 190 LPH Walbro intank pump in my car for over 10 years now. Plenty of fuel for a stock 5.0L HO and it's even quieter then my original factory pump. It was a drop in kit with filter sock, pump, hose, and mounting bracket but I forget where I purchased it. Are you still running factory ignition? If so, it may be breaking down at high rpm. Make sure your spark plug gap isn't too wide first though.
Yes it is factory ignition, I am now getting a consistent miss during hard acceleration and rough idle, fuel pressures check out ok so I’m looking into the ignition. I’m going to pull the plugs today, I think they were gapped at .044” when I put the plugs in, I’ll just put everything to OE. The motor has stock cam and heads for an 87 HO.
It has a new reman distributor, new tfi, new coil, new cap, new rotor. The plugs and wires are 2 years old, Ford racing 9mm wires and motorcraft plugs.
I put a Walbro 255hp in-tank in my '83. It wasn't a "drop-in" replacement, and took a little customization, but it's been working for years.
No details, as it was done a LOOOOONG time ago. I doubt I even have pictures. I know it involved a little cutting, some submersible-rated fuel line (don't cheap out here), and a hose clamp or two to keep the pump in place.
Any idea how to run the fuel filter or maybe adapting one off another vehicle by swapping? I do have a 255lph in tank pump from quantum it has the sock the submersible line the hose clamps and the wiring for it, just was afraid something might not work by swapping over.
Is there a high flowing fuel pump for the 83 dual pump setup? I have a 5.0ho with a stock 83 turbo coupe fuel system, at 5000rpm It seems like it just runs out of fuel won’t rev past that. Do I need to change the in tank pump also or can I get by with just a higher flowing external pump?
You run the same size at all four corners? If I go to 17’s that’ll give me more clearance from the quads
Yes I do. They're stock wheels off of a 2000 Mustang GT, but I figured that having the specs for them would help out a bit. I also have the car lowered a decent amount, but that shouldn't bear much change on quad shock clearance.
Have you done control arms yet?
I only have the uppers changed right now. I bought CHE adjustable lowers I’m waiting to buy mustang springs from MM before I install I think I’m going to get sn95 convertible springs?
I'm running a 245/45/17 on wheels which have 5.75" backspacing. I have about 1.5" between the tire and the quad, and about an inch from the tire to the fender lip.

I put the quad shocks on the car Friday and it’s way better! If people aren’t running them and have aftermarket control arms and are still getting wheel hop I really recommend trying to just reinstall quad shocks! Gabriel 14039 is what I used. Also take note 15x8 wheels with 5.5” backspacing probably won’t fit much more than the 225/60 tires that I currently have on the rear. I will be trying a 15x8 with 4.5” backspacing to try and put either a 255/60 or a 275/60 on the rear while maintaining the quad shocks.
Yeah I hear that I'm staying SD as well that's why I was considering the Megasquirt since its tunable.
I think the VJ1 would be fine. I dont see a reason that wouldn't work unless I'm missing something. I'm not even sure which one is in my car at the moment I'll have to look.
