This is sort of sudden but I thought I'd see if anyone is looking for a project car around here. My girlfriend and me are planning to move in together in a few months and I have 3 cars to her 1 As hard as I try to justify keeping the Thunderbird I know that I have no legitimate use for it and probably never will, my 2006 Mustang has become my baby.
At present it's sitting in my garage, I haven't run it in a year, it probably needs a new battery and I don't know if the fuel stabilizer is still holding (like I said this is on a whim, if someone actually wants it then I'll make sure it runs lol).
It needs body work on the quarter panels but mechanically it's pretty sound. I rebuilt the 302 to HO spec a few years ago with a Weiand Stealth Intake and I put a brand new Holley 650 DP on it shortly before I retired it. I overhauled most of the brake system, new shocks, struts all around, electric fan conversion, B&M Holeshot 2400 stall torque converter, I fabbed a dual snorkel air cleaner for it, HEI distributor with MSD wires, new rad...probably something else I can't remember off the top of my head, really the only thing I haven't rebuilt is the AOD trans. Oh and it's got the rare FMX grill, I put it on a matter of weeks before retirement, the paint doesn't quite match but like I said, project.
I'd let it go cheap, my main concern is reclaiming the space and making sure my very first car goes to a good home instead of the crusher. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll provide whatever info you want. Thanks.
The front of the car still has the Pirelli summer tires it came with stock. Until I got the Blizzaks a few weeks ago I was getting stuck left and right, that doesn't happen now but on the nastier days you can hit the brakes and keep sliding on and on and on, it's unreal.
Guess if I get studs they'll go in the rear. Thanks.
I know I don't have to stud them but anything short of studded tires is pretty much a waste of my money. The roads here in Calgary are really poorly kept in the winter, mid-grade snow tires are just slightly better than nothing at all. I figure if I get the studs maybe I'll actually be able to climb hills when I need to. Or stop when coming down one. At first glance putting studs on the front would be better for braking but could that throw the car off balance during a stop?
This is for my 2006 mustang but that forum isn't loading for me at the moment. I got taken by surprise by the tire shortage this year, I managed to buy 2 Bridgestone Blizzaks for my car and mount them on the rear but I can NOT find anymore to go on the front wheels. My Dad who only wants to see me safe is pushing me to install something besides summer tires on the front and he pointed out the Firestone Winterforce which is studdable. Took some looking but I found them online.
Now the question is, is mixing studded tires with my Blizzaks a good idea for a RWD car and if so which should be in the front? Hoping to get an answer so I can go ahead and order them. Thanks.
I'll probably go with some ported junkyard heads or maybe some cheap aluminum heads off ebay. The cam will be fairly mild, idle-5500 or so. Only hatched this idea last night, I don't have exact specs in mind yet.
So pretty much on a whim I bought a 2006 Mustang to use as a daily driver. I'm young and single I can do that :D
But anyway now that my Bird has lost that last vestige of responsibility I'm free to go wild with it without having to worry about the expense of keeping it efficient
So I'm thinking kind of an old school cheap and dirty build of a 393 stroker backed by a more or less stock C4. Any ideas or experience to contribute?
It's something I've been putting off forever. Whenever I turn the blower on I smell antifreeze but I'm not losing a significant amount of coolant so I haven't bothered to replace the core yet. I know I should do it sooner than later but I'm wondering how different the process for an 83 is than for an 85 and up like the writeup on CoolCats.
Well today wasn't the best day to test it because there was fresh snow on the car but I cleared about an inch just to see what it would be like. It slipped on the wet surface but the stripes still came off pretty good and didn't damage the paint. I'll try to get some more of it done this week.
Thought I sent you an email When I came back from vacation Jan 3 there was a delivery notice. Don't ask me how but Canada post got a hold of it. Picked it up safe and sound the next day...with $17 postage due. Damm US Postal service. Anyway the paint doesn't perfectly match my car yet but come spring I'll see to that. It alters the whole personality of the car, now I can get away with some other visual mods. It was good doing business with you :D
Stopped by Auto Value on the way home and it turns out they do stock that tool normally. Not at that branch but I'm stopping by another one tomorrow to pick one up. Whatever marks it leaves, some wax and the fact that it's black paint will probably hide the worst of it. I'll soon find out.
Eastwood's site is a maze. Could take me hours to find anything. I'll check one of the local body shop supply stores and see if they have one. Would make the whole thing alot easier.
Never liked my pinstriping and I'd like to remove it but up til now I've been to busy/lazy to peel it off. In a similar post I dug up here someone recommended a special rubber disc on a drill for removing factory "painted on" pinstriping. I believe I know what he was referring to, I used one in my uncle's garage once to remove gasket residue from my engine parts. I'm cautious though, I don't believe mine is painted on, I peeled off a few inches of it once and stopped because it seemed to be leaving a red stripe in its place. Basically I'd like to remove the worst of the pinstriping without damaging the surrounding paint. Will one of these work for that?
That site is really something. I had no idea anyone was making fibreglass reproductions for our cars. On a related note I was considering taking those eggshell blue rims off my front and rear bumpers since they don't really seem to match anything. The rear one started falling off on its own a while back, I stuck it back on with Permatex.
