I am getting ready to order some 3.73 Richmond Gears for my 88 Thunderbird Sport.
I just wanted to make sure when going from the factory AOD 2.73 to the 3.73 gears that the proper Driver Gear to get my speedo correct would be a 23 tooth gear.
Also when it comes to installing the ring and pinion gears, is this something that a handyman can do, or is it best left to a professional with the right tools? I dont want to hear the gears, or atlest not that much.
I just took a look at my car, when i pulled the TV cable it just stuck in the open position, with a quick WD40 of the likages down by the tranny, it looks as though its all good now.
I just took my 88 tbird 5.0L out for its first cruise after a long winter sleep with little movement.
The transmission is shifting all messed up, under hard throttle it shifts into second fine, but gets confused when to shift to 3rd?? i would accelarate hard to 50mph, half the time it would level off at 1800rpm the other half the time it would rev at 2500 rpm at 50mph.
When i accelarate slowly it revs to 3000+ then shifts hard to second and again gets confused on third.
Should i be checking the TV cable?
The car has been sitting for 4 months or so. Thanks Jeff
My 88 Tbird has been parked for the winter. It has developed a nasty fuel leak, it appears to be coming from the center of the fuel tank, and from the general location of the fuel pump, it also only leaks when the car is running.
Any ideas before i get her in the air to take a peek.
Hello all, i just got a Ford Escape today for my daily driver.
Now i need some help on deciding on what gear to put into my 88 tbird, i was thinking 3:73
I do most of my cruising at 30-50MPH does anyone know what kind of RPMs i will be doing at 60MPH not in overdrive and also in overdrive??? stock motor and trans and 215/65R15 tires.
Also does anyone have more that 3:73, its an auto.
I am just changing the gear with the original 7.5 traction lock rear end.
I am looking for some used 80s style 16inch pony wheels, just wondering how wide the rubber can be before i get into interference issues on an 88Tbird?
I saw a set with 245s all around, would these work fine.
I have an 88 Tbird Sport with the 5.0L engine. My A/C compressor the other day started screetching every time i turn the car on, it quiets down after 5 or 6 seconds, but its still there.
Anybody have any ideas as to the problem, i heard its possible to replace just the clutch assemby, is this a difficult job? and would anybody know where to get the clutch assembly?
The other night i was getting ready to stop and my brake peddal hit the floor, i had no brakes at all, i got lucky and coasted to a stop.
It turns out i blew a flex hose in the front end, so i had both replaced. Arent these cars suppose to maintain the rear brakes?
Should the peddle hit the floor with a blown flex hose? My mechanic said he had some brake when he brought the car into the garage, and perhaps i didnot push hard enough.
Also my e cables have long since been seased, how hard is it to replace all the cables???
