I have previously owned 84,86 and currently own an 83 T-bird. The curves of the body style have always just done it for me but I truly love the way I feel when i drive one! The ride and handling are smooth and the way the interior wraps around me like a pen 15pit.......makes me smile everytime i drive.
I have an intermittent engine light that comes and goes on my 83 T-bird. I go to try and get a Diagnostic code to source the problem and......I can't find the freakin diagnostic port to plug into. I have several parts store guy and mechanics try and find it but no dice. I did a lil research and I'm reading that my Bird has a EEC- IV predecessor system called a MCU system?
any senior members or Fordies know anything about these? the "brain" on the fender wall says EEC-IV. What year was the MCU changed over to the EEC-IV diagnostics?
I have a problem with my 1983 T-bird---it has a 3.8l engine that continues to hesitate/ stutter/fall on its face when i accelerate from a rolling or dead stop. I can "pump the pedal" to get it to recover but this is driving me nuts! the car has a rebuilt OEM (non trottle-body-injection)carb. I had the same problem on an "84 Bird" I owned back in the 90's but I really don't remember what chain of events fixed it. I'm not a huge fan of the 3.8L engine......but I have to limp this one along until i can trans-plant a 351W and go beast-mode. So since my brain can't remember----I need a Fellow Bird-Brain who just may have run across the same issue AND remembers how to fix it!
