Sometimes these cars aren't as heavy as people think.
Yeah, that was part of the reason for running it across the scales. I think everyone sees Thunderbird and immediately thinks boat. Yet, the base model is pretty darn light and not that far off a similar year Mustang. Perfect for making fast!
I'm actually kind of impressed with the weight (or lack there of) on my T-bird. It's just a 3.8L base model but it came in at 3100 lbs. exactly without me in it and around a half tank of gas.
An updated pic. I repainted the air cleaner cover. I wanted to have some lettering made similar to a '82 GT 5.0 or something but didn't follow through. Also shows the electric fan.
Well, I've decided to sell my Thunderbird. I bought this car with the intentions of swapping out the 3.8L for a 5.0 or possibly a mod motor so that I could have a fun cruiser to take my wife and kids out with since my Mustang has gotten too much like a racecar. However, we purchased a '04 Mach 1 for my wife will fill that need so I will be refocusing my efforts of swapping a coyote into my notch. I've been inspired to help represent the blue oval at events like Hot Rod's Dragweek which has a serious lack of Ford powered vehicles.
The exterior is in pretty good condition with some natural patina beginning on the hood and roof and the underside is very clean especially considering it's age. I still get compliments on the condition of the car.
The interior is red with power windows, locks, driver's seat and outside mirrors.
The engine, 3.8L V6, runs great and doesn't use any oil or smoke a bit. The air conditioning DOES work perfectly. Transmission shifts as it should and doesn't slip or leak.
New parts include: RH door lock actuator Upper & lower radiator hoses Coolant temp. sensor Struts Shocks
I also installed a Flex-a-lite Black Magic electric fan and an auxiliary trans. cooler.
The car will come with the 14" wheels with factory locking wheel covers. The covers are in excellent condition. Two tires have 5/32" and the other pair have 4/32" of tread.
I may include the 15" aluminum wheels for an additional $200.
I also have a engine cross member, hydroboost, frt swaybar, and suspension from a '98 Mustang GT as I have been considering doing a 4.6 V8 swap in the car. I will sell with the car at a steal of a price of $200 for all of it.
Feel free to call, text or email (include "86 Tbird for sale" in the title please) with any additional questions. I'm available most days but unable to answer my phone in the afternoons during the week so please leave a voicemail and I'll respond asap.
