Lounge / 351 M or W?

Show us a pic of either the valve cover, or the water inlet/t-stat housing.

As far as telling the difference between a 351M and a 400, that's easy. Just measure the bore. Of course, getting to the cylinder might not be as easy.
Hard to say in the pic...but I think if the car was mine, and had the 335 Series engine, I'd try to find a running 460 and drop that in...it will bolt right up to the 351M/400 trans.

Actually The bore is the same for the 351M/400, the stroke is different.  The main difference between the two is the crank and the pistons, even the connecting rods are the same!  The 351m uses taller pistons to make up the compression height.  Your best bet is to find the casting numbers on the block, it's the only way to tell short of tearing the motor apart.

I would say it's an M also based on the dipstick being on the passenger side, but the water neck is a dead give away, closer pic would help.  they also have pretty thick intakes compared to a windsor

Misc Tech / Students that do not listen???
Good story!  As much as I like to think I know sometime, my old man will still school me like this pretty regularly.

Lounge / Those fools don't seem to get it
I think some of it has to do with the fact that 99% of the time, we can't 'just buy a kit to bolt on' so to speak for our cars.  We have to do things the hard way i.e. making your own parts to have our cars the way we want.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / Eibach sport springs
Are these fox bird specific?  I need some springs, being I pulled my k-member out and both front springs were broke, and it sits like a 4x4 stock so a drop would be nice.  does the price include shipping?

Lounge / Post products you are **EXCEPTIONALLY happy with
Not sure what brand, I will have to check.  But my $6 Harbor Freight special 1/2" drive breaker bar, I have had an 8ft cheater pipe on this thing and it bends like hell, but does not break. I thought for sure the allen bolt that holds the head on would break, but hasn't. have owned it for 6 years now, and it always breaks things loose where other (a lot of time much more expensive) breaker bars fail

Lounge / Winter Driving
I have driven both my 80's plenty in the winter and they suck on snow and ice, white knuckle driving just going to the store.  My first when I had the warmed over 428cj in there was downright scary, and the stock brakes are barely adequate for dry pavement much less snow, had 400lbs worth of sandbags in the trunk to no avail.  same with my other even with the stock 130hp 302, would spin the tires at highway speeds.  Living in North Dakota I have plenty of experience driving in py winter conditions but I have vowed that when my birdy is all fixed up, it will strictly be a summer car.

oddly enough, my 77 f150 2wd is a beast in the snow and ice, even with no weight in the back.  It does have fairly new all season tires on it, but it is much more controllable on the ice.  It must have much better brakes then the Foxes do, doesn't slide around and I don't have to put it in neutral to stop.  seems like I can feather the throttle easier on it too and not spin out much.  Both my birds would get stuck in my level driveway just backing out.

My 93 Deville will embarass 4x4's in the snow, its V8 powered and fwd.  a couple years ago we had a snowstorm that dropped 26" of snow, I had to stop 3 times on the 5 mile drive to work to dig the snow out of the radiator, because the car kept overheating.  It was pushing snow over the hood most of the way

Lounge / Wife's new ride
Of the 34 vehicles I have owned in my short life, this is the first time I have ever made a car payment.  It's a 2005 Mercury Sable LS, got the 201hp 3.0L Duratec V6.  I never thought I would fall in love with a Sable, but this thing is pretty sweet.  :mercbang:
