Body/Appearance/Interior / Fox Mustang door hinge pins=Fox Thunderbird door hinge pins?
I came across this thread recently because I'm rebuilding a door hinge.  The metal spring that holds the door check was broken like others - it turns out that both part numbers Aerocoupe provided are correct.  You need one of each (E3SZ-6323504-A and E3SZ-63235A62-A), one is the spring, the other is a reinforcement.

Electrical Tech / Dome light, power locks, power mirror, digital speedo all out

It's the power locks that are dead, not the Windows. I checked today and fuse 8 is blown and continues to blow immediately when replaced. Any ideas of how and where to look next?

Lovely, a short to ground.  Have fun looking for it.  Some suggestions - get a wiring diagram and find the closest connector to the fuse, then unplug it.  If the fuse still blows then you have to trace those wires back and find where it's shorting.  If it doesn't blow, pull the fuse, reconnect the wiring harness and move to the next connector.

I had a similar issue a ways back, and it turned out that the harness was rubbing a metal edge where it passed through to the trunk.  I can't recall what fuse was the problem, so I can't say that it/'s the same, but you should try looking for anywhere the harness might be resting near/on sharp edges.

Engine Tech / A/C clutch question
Quote from: Pacerized;456055
When I bought my Cougar I was made aware of an issue with the A/C where as the magnetic clutch would not always engage (not completely sure about the part terminology). If the A/C didn't engage all I had to do was to open the hood and tap on the fan pulley to the compressor and the A/C would engage and work. This year I'm not able to get the compressor to engage so I'm assuming that the electro magnet has given out in the clutch. I looked in my owners manual and it doesn't show a fuse for the compressor only the blower which is working.
Should I look at finding a full clutch/pulley assembly with the magnetic coil? Any suggestions on where to look?
Thanks Charlie

It sounds like the clutch went completely bad, but it would probably be a good idea to check your refrigerant level - if that's too low the clutch won't come on, whether it's new or not.  If you developed a leak, it could be the clutch would still work but not come on due to low pressure.  If your A/C system is properly charged you could also check the connector going to the clutch for proper voltage.  Of course, you could also just change the clutch and if it works you're golden, otherwise then you'd look at those other things - how you proceed is up to you.

The part you linked to *looks* to be correct, but I can't guarantee that.

The outside air comes in through the cowl vent over on the passenger side....not so sure if on an EATC animal there's any kind of recirculation of the cabin air though..

According to the EVTM diagram, the EATC will recirculate air from the cabin, so there's a door there somewhere.  Sounds like testing whether or not that actuator is working might help.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Evolution II.....SEFI upgrade ..... updated 10-23-2015
Quote from: daminc;447430
after looking things over...I found 2 things that arent on my vert that are on a SEFI car

this on the rear passenger side shock tower

and this little thing on the front passenger side shock tower

what are these so I can locate them for the upgrade

Don't recognize the thing in the first pic, my 85 isn't handy or I'd go peek.

The second pic appears to be the AC WOT cutout relay - that's what's in the same location in my 85 TC (I just replaced the connector and relay, so I remember it well).

Drivetrain Tech / Limited slip rear end question
Quote from: croga001;438609
Hey Tom,

When you replace the clutches are there any special measurments or tools you need?  Is there a link to purchase this with instructions?  How much would you estimate a reputible shop would charge to rebuild the rear?  Im fairly mechanically inclined, just not very good with electricity, so I would think about trying this myself if the directions are fairly easy to follow.

Thanks!

Not sure about Tom's method, but to swap out clutches I imagine he must be removing the differential anyway, so here's a write-up with a list of tools/equipment you'll need:

http://www.corral.net/tech/drivetrain/gears.html

I can't vouch for that procedure, but the list of items needed is pretty comprehensive.  The more uncommon items were about halfway through the list - the calipers and travel dial indicator, and are probably the most important items you'll need/can't do properly without.

Good luck!

Electrical Tech / Where is interior lighting relay?
If I recall correctly, there's an illuminated entry module in the trunk under the package tray.  Now, my car's an 85, and my memory's not the greatest on that, but I think that your problem may be related to that if you're positive the door switch is good.

Ok, thanks Haystack. But is it fairly simple to put one in?

The swap is straightforward.  The worst part is putting the tank back up (made harder in my case for reasons I won't go into).  Depending on the condition of the tank, getting the fuel pump out shouldn't be difficult.  The only problem you could run into is if the lock ring has rusted itself to the tank.  I've done this twice on my T-Bird, most recently this past July, and other than having a lot of dirt built up on top of the tank had no problems.  It took most of a day for the work, but I also did a lot of other work while I had the tank down.

You should drain the fuel tank before doing this, and it's recommended that when the tank is down that you have it flushed/cleaned professionally.  I'm not sure how much experience you have with pulling fuel tanks, so don't forget to remove the fuel filler neck first.  I'd get a repair guide or look up the process online before doing this just to be safe.

Check the fuel pressure, if you don't have any but can hear the fuel pump kick on then it's the hose in the tank.  Mine deteriorated and had to be replaced this past summer.  I had seen someone on this forum talking about that problem, not realizing I had the same thing going on - and I was driving myself crazy checking out every last thing I could think of until I finally bit the bullet and dropped the gas tank.
