Engine Tech / Engine light connected to?
Thanks so much everyone this should really help.  I have been really busy with university so haven't been here in a while.  It has been idling low when stopped, shifting or slowing down to stop and that is the light comes on so now I know what to focus on.  Thanks again softtouch and everyone, I will let you all know how it goes.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / got my 83 cat running!!
Thanks everyone I really appreciate it.  Yeah that leather interior... sigh.  Will get done eventually.  Any color suggestions for replacement vinyl? Don't want anything too dark as the car is black enough and I live in the desert.  Thanks sarjxxx I really like the color scheme with the black then red pinstripes then gray as well.  It is original too so definitely want to keep the same idea though it does need repainting.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / got my 83 cat running!!
Finally got my 83 cougar running again last weekend after a lot of work by my dad and I.  It's running nice and fairly smooth though the choke isn't responding properly so it idles really high.  Though it is just great to be running again after all summer working on it.

Well, I finally got my 83 Cougar running again.  However, the engine light has been coming on intermittently.  Most recently it came on as I was parking and just before shifting into park.  So I was curious what the light was connected to sensor wise?

Drivetrain Tech / Transmission comparison between C4 & AOD
I recently acquired a 1984 Thunderbird with a C4 transmission and was wondering how the C4 compared to the AOD from my 83 Cougar?  I want to make sure that my cougar which is going to be my primary transportation has the best option available.  I have no previous experience with either of them pros/cons so that is why I am asking here.  Thanks much.

Engine Tech / Engine dying when put in gear
Chris: thanks for that, I will take a look.  Someone else said it might be a massive vacuum leak which is somewhat believable because I had to do some quick-n-dirty rerouting to stop the hot air from constantly blowing through the air system.  Also was advised about a component that ups the idle when shifting and it could have gone bad.  Does any of those sound possible as well?  jpc: Thanks for the offer and I will let you know if I end up needing to take you up on it.  What is the brand by the way?

Engine Tech / Engine dying when put in gear
After working on the car all summer we finally got it running but within the past 3 weeks to a month ago the engine has started dying as soon as you put the car in gear.  This happens so fast that you can't get your foot over to the gas pedal in time.  The car is a 1983 Cougar with the 3.8liter V6 and 3speed overdrive tranny.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

My 83 Cougar has black carpet and gray vinyl seats, not sure about the rareness though.
