T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / Selling 1987 Turbo in Excellent condition

Beautiful car! I don't think it matters if it is an automatic or not! I see it worth as much either way!

I think so too, I would not want to rough house or race this classic, this car drives like it looks, and takes bumps with it's original air ride as well as my Jeep Grand Cherokee....and they say America can't build a good car...Motor Trends car of the year, 4 cylinder gas mileage and enough power, 23 years old and still in this shape! and I only had to put $ 1,400 in it to get it like this....nuff said!

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / Selling 1987 Turbo in Excellent condition
I am selling my 1987 Turbo Coupe, times getting tough!  I have gone through the car and re stored almost anything I could find (and THANKS to the help I got from this forum!).  I am the 3rd owner (first two same family)  I have the car fax equiv. and an inspection when I purchased the car and inspections are welcome, in fact the description/pics don't do it credit.
It has 106,000 miles on it, every option and all power including sunroof and everything now works!  Cloth interior, full power, lumbar and bolster  on both front seats in excellent condition.
Less than one year old is...
oil pressure sending unit
temp. sending unit
ball joints
outer tire rods
brakes and tires
I am asking $ 5500 which is negotiable

Engine Tech / Idle reves up to 2000 rpm
Quote from: jpc647;301878
I had the exact same problem with my 87 turbo coupe. It had the 2.3lt motor, all stock. no modifications except a high flow aluminum radiator(if thats a mod, lol). I beat my head against the wall, i replaced the tps, the coolant sensor that connects in the heater hose right in front of the firewall(the car threw a code). Mine had 3 month old o2 sensors in it, so I don't think it was that. I originally thought it was only after boosting, but i proved that wrong after a while. I checked and cleaned everything that had a plug going to it that would carbon up and I could not find the problem. I took it to a shop and they couldn't find it. I posted it here as a problem. The link is http://foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=20514&highlight=idle

I don't know if that will help.

So you never could find the problem?...What did you do? live with it or get rid of it?

Maybe the TPS is bad.

Can the tps hold a correct currant and still be bad?

It's the 2.3 turbo...sorry for not putting that in the info.

Engine Tech / Idle reves up to 2000 rpm
I have a idle issue, sometimes it starts climbing and gets to 2000 rpm or more and sometimes will not come back down till I shut the car off and re start, then back to 1000rpm, I have tried another IAC, and replaced the temp sending unit thinking it was sending the wrong temp to the ECM causing the problem, seems to be more stable now that the temp sending unit was changed but still revs up, TPS checks at about 0.92v and stays there when the engine is doing it's rev thing.
Removed the TB and intake and cleaned and looked over, it all looks good, cap, rotor, wires and plugs are in good condition and when the idle is steady it's good and steady and smooth, just every now and then will start climbing and sometimes comes down by it's self and other time does not seem to want to and sometimes I can rev it up over 3000 rpm and it will settle down, nothing constant to try to narrow this down, I would think a vacume leak would be more constant, could it be a mis reading 02 sensor? can I remove and clean the 02 sensor?....or anyone have any ideas?

Electrical Tech / Courtsey lights in back don't work
Under the main power switch panel that has the seats/windows buttons on it there is a junction plug with six wires, two of these go the the light switch on back of the console that I guess control the courtesy lights I am trying to get working, at that plug the two for the light switch have no power, the others appear to as two of the others are for the light inside the console and it works. Can I just jump off the wires to the light inside the console or is this not a good idea?

Electrical Tech / Courtsey lights in back don't work
They don't come on at all, door open, inside lights turned on with dash switch, so I replaced both bulbs, still no lights. Will check the plug and power to the switch in console.

Engine Tech / Unknown sensor
Would that be the "electronic automatic temp. control?

Thanks for the info.

Electrical Tech / Courtsey lights in back don't work
In my 87 TC the small Courtsey lights in the back don't work, I tried new bulbs in both, still don't work, it appears they have no power...are they on a seperate fuze or something (I would not think so...but)...the auto headlights did not work when I got the car and it was just unplugged at the dash switch so I wonder if this was unplugged somewhere....anyone have any ideas?

Engine Tech / Unknown sensor
I have a 87 TC auto with climate control and have a sensor that is a in-line sensor in the metal coolant line that goes to the heater core and the wire harness that hooks to it goes through the firewall inside the car, like where the heater core is....what is this sensor, it's not the coolant temp. sensor like I thought and the parts houses can't figure it out.
