Misc Tech / Digital to buttstuffog dash conversion
Hey Guys,

I wasn't sure if this was the correct forum to post this. I have an 88 XR7 with a digital dash. A lot of the segments don't light up. I never liked the digital dash.
Can someone tell me if its possible to convert it to an buttstuffog dash? What's involved and how do you do it?

Suspension/Steering / Steering Rack Replacement
Getting back to the rack, I'm trying to locate the two lines that go from rack to rack. Dealer can only supply the long one. Non of the local part stores can get them. Do you know if they are available or do I have to go to a junk yard?

As far as the rear I don't know what it is. I know it's a posi, both wheel spin in the same direction when I had it jack up. The rear makes a lot of noise when I turn, guessing the oil should be changed and posi lube should be added

Quick question, one of the lines from the rack that goes where the power steering lines screw into is leaking right at the nut. Can I replace those lines? They seem really hard to get to, do I have to unbolt the power steering hoses to get to the rack lines bolts?
Hope this makes sense.

Engine Tech / Engine Problem Need Help
Hello,

I have an 88 XR7 with 133k miles. The engine is stock with no mods.
It started to run rough and miss, I replace the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Same problem. I pulled the plugs and notice that cylinders 1 and 2 the plugs were totally black and dry. The rest were black with a white area. White like brand new white. I did a compression test, most cylinder were around 150 except for cylinder 5, it was 90. I also noticed that when I put my timing light on cylinders 1 and 2 that the strobe was erratic indicating to me that the cylinders were not firing all of the time. The rest of the cylinders were fine, including number 5, whose compression was only 90. I'm thinking that I may have a couple of problems,  low compression on one cylinder and two cylinders not firing properly. Am I looking at a valve job? It does not blow any smoke and it uses a quart of oil every 1000 miles. I'm thinking the bottom end is ok.
Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Body/Appearance/Interior / Dash Cover Replacement
I have an 88 Cougar and the dash cover is cracked. I'm looking to replace it. Does anyone have a step by step procedure for doing this? I understand its time consuming and hard to do.
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement dash cover.
