Drivetrain Tech / transmission question
ok wher in the world is a kick down cable/ tv cable for the silly thing?  i cannot find an opening in the trans, and there is no lever for a tv/kick down on the linkage shaft on the driver's side, similar to an a4ld. 

also the connector that is there on the driver's side of the trans,  what are the functions?  is it for tcc??  there are 4 wires to it tho.

hey i bought an 86-86 TC motor and transmission.  i am needing to know what type of transmission it is.  i know the pan is flat,  and has 13 bolts.  i know its not an a4ld, because that is what is in my truck.  i also cannot find a tv/kickdown cable.  and my last question: the 4 wires that come out of the driver's side of the case, what are their functions.      thanks for the help

Both motors -- assuming equal or near equal power levels -- will require different amounts of fuel....  The BSFC of the 4 will be higher.  Heck the 88 LPH pump has a much harder time supplying a turbo 4 180-190 HP turbo 4 than it does a 225 HP 5.0...



fuel demands on each motor are different.  the turbo 4 cyl runs 25-35psi injectors,  under boost on my merkur(same engine as a TC) fuel pressure went into the low 60's,  injectors on the bird are ~19lb injectors(stock).  pressure really has nothing to do with it..... its volume that is what u need,  yet u still need pressure for spray pattern.    i dont know if your going to be boosted or not, if you are boosted you need a bigger pump than if your n/a

was curious, should i use oe replacements for a 97 5.0 explorer so i dont run into too much compression,  im also worried about piston to valve clearance issues with the gt40p heads, and a mild cam

hi, since my 351w plans fell thru, im gonna build my 302.  it will need to be bored so it will more likely be a 306.  i am going to use gt40p heads, stock valves,  a roller cam that has around .512 lift and around a 272 duration, 1.6r rockers, mass air, and an auto trans.  please keep in mind money is tight,  it will never see boost or nos. would hyperutectic(sp) pistons be ok to use?  this car will see occasional drag strip runs.

well im not going to be using a 351w that i was given.  it had the top compression ring was broken and galled a cylinder wall.  it will require a rebuild.  so im just going to spend that money and rebuild my 302 that is in the car.

find a truck/van pan to use.  may work...  i matched the pans foxbody 5.0, to a 5.0 truck/van rear sump pan and it seems as if its going to work.

Misc Tech / Leaded Fuel
hate to beat a dead horse,  its my understanding that leaded fuel for was for early valves so they dont beat the seats out of the head,  and these newer valves when run with leaded fuel, tend to fail. 

Do you have a local airport and a 55 gal drum??  i have bought 110 octane unleaded fuel meant for turbo prop planes at my local airport.  now to fill a 55 gal drum cost alot, but that is the only way the airport would sell it... either by tank load on a plane or 55 gal drum.

i was just going to use a stock rear sump oil pan. thanks for the info.  and my k-member is OE with my bird.  and the 5.0 mustang mounts are different than my 5.0 bird mounts.

hey im looking to buy a set of 351w swap headers for a fox body, would prefer shorties, or long tubes, a 351w fuel injected upper and lower intake, (truck or car style intake), a torque converter, front pump, and valve body for a c4 small block pan fill transmission. any help is appreciated, please include shipping to 37412

i will probably get a k-member.  ive actually found someone local that has put a 351 into an 87 bird,  he used an 83 k-member, and a truck rear sump pan.  so im gonna try the pan that ive got and see how that works.  also will any mustang (talking fox body) k-member fit??

yea that is cheap.  im trying to do this on a small budget.  ive got almost 1k to drop this motor in the car,  i could buy everything i needed to set the motor in, but i wanted to see what junkyard parts i could get to set it in the car and save some of that money for things that need to be replaced on the car.
