1983 Mercury Cougar spent it's early years in Tennessee then came up here and spent most of it's time drag racing . Very little rust . It's hard to find them this solid around here . All this car needs to complete is a little bit of body work and paint . I have all the body parts but they are not on the car so it can be repainted correctly . I have a brand new header panel for it and the doors for it are from out west (they are blue) . You could have this car done by summer easily . I built it to be light and powerful , but now I've got other priorities . I am just trying to get back what I've got invested in it . This is the perfect project for a body man , the car is ready to be driven down the road except for the body work .
I've done the swap with k-member spacers twice now and there is no need to worry about the struts travel unless you plan on running the baha 500 , lol . You are right in thinking that the strut will basicly be 1 1/4" too short (assuming your using 1 1/4" spacers) , But you would never use that much suspension travel in any type of street driving . Getting the nut back on the top of the strut can be a real fight , the car lifts before you can get the nut on the threads . I had to use a large 2" ratchet strap between the lower control arm and the inner fender to get it back together .
Thanks for the input , I checked my schematic and you are right , I would need to build a relay set up to do it . I am trying to keep the car light and simple wiring so I guess I'll just hide the factory buttons under the dash .
I've got an 83 Cougar that has a custom dash and no center console . I am thinking about where to put the power window switchs (probabaly under the dash) but I started to wonder if the power lock switches in the door are strong enough to run the window motors (I doubt it) . I am just looking for advice before I have to dig out my doors and look at the switches , if I remeber right they are wimpy .
I've searched the forum and can't find an answer to this . I have a 1983 Cougar that I am putting a big block in and still want the speedo to work . It has the digital dash with a speedo cable going to it and I need to know if all the controls for it are integrated into the dash cluster ? or will it not work since I am removing the engine ecm ?
also has anybody got these older dashes to read over 85 mph yet ?
I am the guy thats putting the 557 in onebadcougars 85 cougar . I think he posted in the wrong section and I know he didn't end up getting the answers I need to know .
I need to put tall valve covers on it due to the roller rockers and need to know if anybody has actually done this by installing the smaller brake booster from a 94 mustang ? Did it clear ?
I have read that it doesn't clear in a mustang but I can't remember if the mustangs have the engine offset towards the right side like the cougars do . That bit of offset could make a world of difference !
Does anybody know the diameter of the 94 stang booster ?
This is becoming a real issue for me with this swap as this is a street driven car and nonpower brakes just isn't an option and I would prefer to NOT go with the hyrdoboost system but might have to .
