I am a moron. I landed myself a half dozen tickets and a few hours in the slammer last night. I cant make the trip for sure now, i have court that week. Young cop on a power trip caught me terrorizing the town on my bike. I had to learn the hard way what those signs saying aircraft used for speed enforcement meant.

...i am quite ashamed of myself, my bike is impounded and on a hold, and the cop nailed me for resisting arrest, the kickstand is broken on the bike so i couldnt just step off of it so they ripped me off of it.
I wont try that one again, as the old saying goes you can out run the car you cant outrun the motorola,

Serious blows have been dealt today. I got next weeks schedule at work before i left for lunch today. Ive gone from 36 hours a week to 6. And to top of my frustration when i get home to eat lunch I find a letter from the city giving me 7 days to park my car in the garage. Total BS that we pay someone out of our tax dollars to drive around neighborhoods every month and make sure everyones car moves. The car getting moved is not a big deal i could have it in the garage in 20 minutes if i chose.

...the big deal is finding a second or new job?? Im not giving up hope to make the trip, I will probably be camping though. Any good state parks close??? Not that it entirely matters the back seat of my Crown Vic is bigger than my couch.

Im close enough that i cant help but make the trip, i dont see myself staying the full weekend, probably get in mid morning saturday. Then hopefully get to see and hear a few nice Birds and Cats hang with some nice folks through the evening and then jet back to work my usual sunday closing shift in the parts store. Whats the area like around the hotel you guys are booking at? If theres going to be any chance of tom-foolery i may come down and check in friday night

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Unlocking a door without a key(junkyard car)
I solved my issue by calling my friend at the body shop, they lock keys in cars all the time and have a good lockout tool.

After getting the doors open the column wasnt an issue, my roomate taught me one night that my Falcon key starts the Cat. I was out of town with my ex for the weekend and of course spare keys were hanging from their hook in the kitchen. I had the master set in my pocket the entire weekend and when he said "yeah you always said the gold key for the cougar" my jaw dropped, the copys of the cat keys are all silver, the only other gold key hanging in there was the falcons. We both went out to the car then and there and started it up my 1987 Cougar with a 1969 Falcon key.

Ive already picked up two new lock cylinders, A simple 20 dollar mistake, lesson learned.

I am contemplating a remote entry/start system but i do not like anything i see on the shelves at parts stores. Anyone have any ideas?

Lounge / 2 Wheel fun
Ive spent the first bit of warm weather getting the motorcycle ready for the season. What do you guys think?

first thing added, handguards with reflectors stuck on them, This thing and I have only experience one accident and it was not my fault, being hit once is enough for me. Ive since pulled the baffles and added lights and reflectors, loud exhaust saves lives.

tons of polish and sandpaper later its starting to look pretty nice,
the gold wheels are a signature of an 80 Yamaha I wouldnt change them for the world.

single cylinder dual down tubes, each valve has its own pipe. Same for the carb, each intake valve has its own carb. It can be a tricky job to tune. Ive reached the point where any less baffle in the exhaust and i reach the limit of the factory carb setup. There isnt a name brand jet kit for it so i am on my own for setting it. Once i get my hands on the jets i will pull more baffles and poke a hole or two in the top of the air box. Sealed with a little oiled lawn mower foam filter of course, this thing sees highway, city, trail, mud, water and of course its ideal domain, SAND!

there are so many good routes to get there, and either way is less than a 1 hour difference. I love springfield so many hwys to get the heck out of dodge.

so which direction do you guys want to go?? Im wanting to take hwy 60 all the way there. According to google its 427 miles either way i go so meeting up on the interstate wont bother me. I can go north on i44 to stl and switch to I64 east or just head dead east... So whos up for the 2 lane highway drive?

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Unlocking a door without a key(junkyard car)
Rather than start a new thread.....

My keys fell off a POS keyring on the motorcycle. luckilly it was only 4 keys, 2 too the house 1 to my LTD and 1 for the cougar

the worst part is the copy of the cougar key i have doesnt work,

i knew it didnt work the day i had them made but i didnt drive the car so i couldnt check it there. I remember holding the two keys together and seeing the slight imperfection i was just too lazy to go out and spend 2 minutes on the dremel.

Ok i have to know, the screw driver trick. Its done on youtube with an antenna, the guy will steal the antenna off your car and then use it to break into rangers and explorers. It was on the evening news somewhere in TX on youtube.

is it the same trick? I pulled the door apart on the LTD just to see it next to the cougar and am really stumped on how you can pop one of these doors open. Unless the plastic cover is taken off the latch it seems impossible to me.

Ive managed to get the hood open, it was easy. pop the tabs on the bottom of the grill and then reach around the latch and pop it with one finger.
Im contemplating using a wooden dowel rod through the firewall if i can drill a hole in just the right spot to hit the power lock. I luckilly don't have ANYTHING in the way of HVAC to stop me. Or even a glove box for that matter.

Suggestions??
pardon the rant, Im mad.

The trip through Mark Twain is certainly my route of choice, yes according to google the Interstate is quicker but i know the beauty and how nice the roads are in Mark Twain.

Ok, sadly I cant bring the cat. I have no reason not to jump in the LTD and cruise down there for a weekend. If i can get a few more nickles rubbed together all she needs 50 bucks in exhaust work, and a valve cover gasket and probably a fuel filter. I know it wont touch the cat but. I chased down a little Acura with it last night. I cant say it was easy...but she did it. 170k and still "tickin." Only god knows how long its done that. Ill be there.

Suspension/Steering / Lower Ball joint question.
To clarify, You dont rent the too from the 'Zone. They simply let you borrow it with a deposit on the tool. If you want to keep it, Its yours. If you buy a tool off the sales floor and try to return it people will look at you funny.

And yes, go for the Moog pieces, Much better part.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Imported Iron
Hmm, good info. I didnt even think about the chain guides but it makes far more sense than valve adjustments. Its been my experience that most OHC chain guides are over tensioned and under oiled for the pressure. Just my thought on it.

ok now the modular motor has my attention. How did i not know there was a carb manifold for them????????????!!!!!!!

P71 'Vics are everywhere.

and my gears keep grinding,

either way Ill be the last one to put any Chebbie parts on anything,
i dont care if its a throttle return spring for my lawn mower,
Ill take parts from anywhere but Government Motors.

The 4.6/5.4 family has never seen variable valve timing though, Right???

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Imported Iron
Im just trying to think different guys, Its not about domestic or import to me. Hell if i had the resources id put two engines in the thing why not. After different comes cost effective. And if i can get my hands on a running rollover sequoia at auction for what im going to put into building my 289 and finding a trans, why not look into it.

Everyone keeps saying ford ford ford, and all i can say is i drive a mercury. Different is the key. In the 60s mercurys claim to fame was being different from all the rest. Im not saying the yota engine is the be all end all of engines Im just saying id like to blow one up.

They all do eventually.
