The problem is who writes the standards by which we choose what is good and what is bad? Ever hear of David Ring? He is a preacher that has battled a lot of in his life and you might well say why is he around. But hear him speak and you will be amazed. And his response to those that question him and his physical conditions? "I have cerebral palsy. So what's your problem?" For we all have a problem somewhere or another. And most of us have multiple problems. Does that mean we should die?
Albert Einstein. A genius of a man. But unable to function in society without assistance. Does that mean he should be killed off for he is the weak link socially? Or breed for he is the strong link mathametically.
Or how about Hitler? Breed him for he did a lot of good things for Germany. He rebuilt national pride. He rebuilt the country and economy to a good deal. Or kill him for he was bad for the world. He killed those he saw as inferior. He was a tyrant.
I believe there is a standard by which men can be judged. It is called the Bible. And what does it say? That GOD loves all men. Irregardless of their condition. But it also says we all deserve to die. For none of us are perfect. But GOD has provided a way of escape. We can choose to take it or not. And for me to say that a person should die just because they are weak in an area that I may be strong? I don't think so...because using that logic there would be a lot of people looking to throw my worthless hide away. And I kinda like being alive.
One other item to mention. Is it not the duty of the strong to protect the weak? Why do you think you are strong? Just to build up yourself or to help others that may need it? Perfect example is in the husband protecting his wife. For each have a duty and role to play and one of the husbands is to protect the house and all that is in it. Don't believe me? Just go next door to your neighbors house some night and try and clean him out. See what happens.
You need a duraspark distributor and the ignition box to go with it. Look for late '70s and early '80s if I remember correctly. As for wiring, Fila would be your man. Unless someone else chimes in.
I personally think racing stripes are too old school for the Bird. However the artistic use of some color and design on the hood and sides could make a big difference. I would go with something that says muscle but in a modern way.
I would guess that you are close enough to stock to run the SD computer but you just might have just gone over the edge. With improved intake and exhaust you may be flowing more then it can handle causing the fuel maps to be wrong. Hard to say especially with the E6 heads as they are not known for their real good flow.
I would do a real good check of everything you just did and make sure no vacuum lines are cracked or loose and everthing is hooked up properly. Also run a scan toll on it and see if it kicks you any codes. If all checks out them I would be thinking it may be just too much for that computer. Best way to tell is to do the conversion to MAF. Or you could go back to your old intake just for a test to see if it solves your problem. If so, I am thinking the SD can not handle the Cobra intake with headers and 1.7 rockers.
Just ran across this auction on Ebay and noticed he talks about giving away his Dad's '85 Turbo Coupe. May be worth checking out if you are in the NY area. Otherwise not a bad collectable.
Try spraying starting fluid along the gasket to see if that momentarly smooths it out. If so you have found your leak. Or just listen for the whistling.
And on installing the lower intake, I use the intake to head gaskets but chuck the cork pieces that go between the intake and block. By using a nice good bead of RTV there it insures that the intake is sitting down on the heads nice and tight.
Have you changed anything else other then the lower and upper intake pieces?
1) Make it rumble. (Nasty dogs never wimper.) 2) Make it stand out with paint. (Tasteful. Photoshop first to get the feel.) 3) Put a decent sound system in it. (No need to go overboard.) 4) Make it whip the ricers. (This can get pretty expensive and be slow to complete.)
I would do it in that order if the budget can stand it. And make a budget. Figure out how much each step will cost and make sure you can get the whole thing done in the time allotted. If you can not at least see if you can cover the first three. The rumble will set you apart from the ricers and they will know you are serious. (Everyone loves a muscle car.) Even if you can not back it up with an HO. They will not know the difference. Very few people in your school probably actually care about the performance, it is all about style, sound and sight. And the ones that do care, I seriously doubt they are on the yearbook staff.
Do all that and you will have a dang fine machine worthy of the yearbook!
If I understand correctly, your transmission starts slipping when you turn your heater off?
If so the only remote thing that I can this of is you mounted your trans cooler behind the radiator. So when the rad gets hot it heats the trans fluid and you got issues. By running the heat you increase the cooling of the engine keeping the rad a little cooler so the trans cooler does not get as hot and everything is ok.
All I can say is where ever he is, his fate is sealed. Place yourself in his shoes. Where would you be? Just something to ponder.
But anyway, he has left family behind and my prayers do go out to them. For they are left with a giant heart ache I am sure. To say nothing of at least a wife if not kids now unsupported and faced with no husband/dad to come home to.
I do thank her for letting us know though. And if you hear of or know of any way that we can help, I would love to know about it.
