T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 88 Cougar LS 5.0 Plus Parts!!!
I'm selling my 88 cougar.  It got hit in the side.  It has some unibody damage.  The wheels still seem to line up.  It needs new ball joints so it's hard to tell.  The tires don't seem to be wearing funny.

I just replaced the Tranny with a freshly rebuilt one from a 87 crown vic.  It is sweet.
It still needs a set of springs and ball joints.  A small piece of the driver side spring has literally broke off.
I live in North Jersey.

EDIT:
I have 4 New Firestone Indy 500 Tires

Act fast!
As soon as I get a replacement it's unfortunately going to be junked
If your interested in buying, I'd be glad to tell you Everything about it.

I'd be willing to give parts off it.  I do have the original spoke Hook caps.

$700 for everything.

$300 for the car only.

$70 for 2 New Strut Mounting kit.
$150 for 2 New Struts.

Misc Tech / Types of gass
What kinds of gas do you guys prefer?  In my experience I believe that Sunoco and Shell are the better compared to Hess and Delta.  However for the price I might put delta in.  Those are really the only places I've tried.

are all fuels the same?  I defiantly believe that the air has more to do with performance than the gas.  More so than the octane of the gas.

I'm running a stock 5.0 with a knn air filter lol.

Drivetrain Tech / Inaccurate speedometer.
My speedometer seems to be off by some exponential function.  I'm not sure what the reason would be.  I believe that It was off before I did my trans swap.  When I swapped the tranny I didn't swap the sensors.  Mainly because the one from the Crown Vic was melted on the exhaust.

I got two tickets: The first one is fuzzy.  I remember watching my speed climb to 40 in a 25.  I remember getting the ticket and the officer telling me I did 40.  Then I get into court and somehow the speed was increased.

The second one My speed got to 51 in a 40 and I get clocked at 60.

I believe I have the right size tires.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Can't seem to get any good picks of the car yet.  Maybe I should wash it.

Skip to the next section if you don't what to hear my life story.

My first car was a black with red interior 86 cougar.  I can honestly say that was true love.  I replaced everything on that.  Main bearings, timing chain, engine mounts, fuel pump and whatever else.  The only problem was the rust.  I decided to get rid of it because my father got a new mustang and his old cougar was kept in a garage longer.  I hate body work.  I think appearance is important but I don't have the passion to learn that skill.

I'm not sure I love this cougar.  I always found the gray color frustrating.  The reason this car was purchased was because someone rear ended the 86 and jacked it.    Then, without asking the dealer decides to improperly install a sun roof.  This car was really a mess from the start.  It's still a free cougar:D .
(There is a track by Naughty by Nature  called Dirt all by my Lonely about a stolen black cougar)

I wanted to put a five speed in it however due to time, cash, and legal issues:punchballs: I've decided to buy this cheap beat up crown Vic  and steal it's tyranny for the time being.

I'm trying to figure out what I want to do.  I'm told I should buy a more economical car, which seems like a good idea.  But i would hate the have to work on and drive a FWD piece of .  As far as I'm concerned I'll choose one extreme or the other.

I have been thinking about getting a crown vic though.  When I was younger I used to hate the old farty boxy body stile.  But now I love it.  After driving that busted one it's really pimping.  They are really sturdy cars.  I think they may be the last cars made with a full frame.  I find now that they are a bitch to work on especially compared to the cougar.

The previous owner of the crown vic was a stupid kid.  He beat the shiznit out of that thing.  The only good thing he did for that car was the racing stripe.  Which was done poorly.  But I do think the idea is good.  Anyone agree or disagree?

------

I have decided that since I hate body work my cars from now on are rats.  I'm wondering What I should do with the cougar's color. I have ripped out the interior because the roof was caving in due to the leaking sunroof.  I bought some red plastic vinyl paint before the tranny blew.  I was going to paint all of the plastic panels two tones of red. It depends what I'm going to do on the out side.

The only part that is in excellent condition is the hood.  I was thinking about maybe leaving the center section of the hood gray or putting two stripes that expand towards the back.

This is it now:

I don't know.  I may just leave it.  Like I said I'm not to concerned about appearance.  However I believe that what color you are looking at plays an important role in your mood.  I've seen fabric paint.  That sounds too good to be true.  I'm thinking about leaving the seats and carpet gray.  There is no roof.  I was going to wire brush as much glue off it as I can then paint it metallic maroon.

the glue is transparent and the current dark gray color isn't to bad.

I was thinking semigloss black.  Maybe I could paint the top half glossy and the bottom rusty arias semi gloss black .  If done right, there is probably something really cool I could do with the original paint.  What do you think?

I'll have to get better picks of the cougar.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / 88 AOD to T5 Swap
I'm looking to swap my busted AOD for a T5.  I'm looking for a used T5 that comes with the flywheel, starter, pilot bearing, bellhousing and fork.  I may be interested in a used clutch as well.  I'll also be looking for pedals and a clutch CABLE.

Drivetrain Tech / Dead Pilot's T5 swap. (Questions?)
I'm considering doing a T5 swap for my 5.0L 88 cougar with a column shifter.  I'm young and inexperienced.  I have done research online and have some sort of idea what is involved.  The first thing I found was the article on coolcats.net.

coolcats.net/tech/advanced/t5_conversion.html
(can't post links lol:rollin:)
Most helpful.  I'm sure if I can get all of the correct parts I'll know what to do.

Right now I'm having trouble finding a transmission.  1WLD BRD says i could get the pedals, clutch CABLE tranny bellhousing, fork, flywheel, starter, and pilot bearing for about $500.  Which seems right about what I want to pay.  I've called a huge list of junk yards and found only one.  They guy wanted $500 for just trannny alone.  it seems that Ebay is the best place to look.  Vinnietbird recommended the Corral forum classifieds which is an interesting resource I probably would not have found.  If anyone could recommend any other places to look that would greatly help me out.

I've passed up on some transmissions that said that they grind into gear.  I assume that means they need to be rebuilt.  I've seen some expensive packages to rebuild these things.  People still buy these busted transmissions.  Is it worth rebuilding?  I don't think it is worth rebuilding especially since I don't know what is involved.  Can someone please advise?

The other question is about the pedals.  Is my understanding correct, the clutch peddle and the break peddle come in one assembly?  What kind of fabrication needs to be done on an 88?  I see the fuse box is where i think the clutch needs to be.  The wheel well looks like it may get in the way of the clutch.

This is a great community.  Thanks for the help. :D
