Last week i bought an 84 tbird turbo off a friend of mine. Back in sept he was driving it and it jumped time on him pulling into his neighborhood. He didnt drive it maybe 200 yards after it jumped time but he changed the timing belt and reset the timing and it was popping them too, after 3 tries at resetting the timing he gave up. I think the timing is still off. Above 45-50mph the car runs smooth and doesnt miss or hesitate but at lower gears it does miss and hesitate some. The popping sound only occurs around idle. He told me he changed the plugs and wires too. Any ideas what it could be??
here is a couple videos....the audio quality isint that great but you should be able to hear the popping sound
Looking to sell my Tbird, i just bought this a couple months ago and i got my new CVPI so i dont need this anymore. It is a base model, only option is has is AC. No PW, PL none of that, has an AM radio. has 177,XXXmi on it,is a "C" series 3spd auto with a 3.3 straight 6 and single barrel carb. i bought it from an elderly black man who had it given to him by an elderly lady with 22k on it!! anyways it runs and drives good and would be a good project for someone to make into a drag car. It is a fox chassis just like a mustang. Swap the K member and drop in a v8.Gets about 20-23mpg here is a list of parts i replaced:
New radiator new heater core new drivers side brake hose new valve cover gasket and oil press sending unit new fuel pump two brand new rear tires just bought two weeks ago Converted AC to R134 and it does work
what it needs: drivers side of seat isint in the best shape fuel sending unit acts screwy....reads way less then what is in tank
I just got the new tag and clean title in my name
$795 OBO need this gone, dont need it anymore. Drove it daily for a couple weeks with zero issues until i got my Crown Vic Will deliever within a 100 mi radius of claremore, OK
i've been having this issue with my car over a year, its mostly annoying as all hell, what it does it taking off from a stop, especially making a righthand turn my trans will shift hard into 2nd, sometimes hard enough to bark the tires not even trying, or it will almost slip a little and then hard into 2nd, the fluid is fresh and full and i changed the filter recently, it has no other issues other than this and i've put nearly 40k on it, could the cable be adjusted wrong?
looking for a fuel sending unit for my 81 tbird, one from a cougar/granada/fairmont/zephyr should work as well, as long as it hooks up in the bottom of the tank and not the top
Some of you have seen my other thread about me getting a good deal on this car but i figure i'll post up a pic thread about it. Its a base model 1981 thunderbird 3.3 straight 6, no cruise or pw, pl and has only an AM radio only option it has is AC. I am the 3rd owner of it now. Once i get it cleaned up and detailed i will post up some more pics
alright here it is my screen namesake. 88 LS cougar with the dreaded 3.8 V6 and yes i bought it for cheap because it had a blown headgasket but i got that fixed. Bone stock and gets about 25-27 mpg average, on a trip on the highway i got 29.5. The handcuffs on the rearview are just a decoration its dirty and in a field but i was out shooting
I found this for sale where i live, 1981 Thunderbird 3.2 I-6, 115,000 original miles, looks all original even has factory radio and hubcaps, girl i talked to said it runs and drives good, the price?? try $500
Okay it finally happened, yesterday i stopped at a gas station, started the car and my speedometer wont light up, its really hard to see at night, it still works, it just isint lighting up like it did earlier yesterday. Is it just a bulb that burnt out or something worse?? Tell me what i need to do, thanks in advance
Okay as the thread states i'm looking for a black 87-88 XR-7 grill and a set of Black mesh wheels with a silver lip, either 15-16in wheels will do, brand doesnt matter. Post up what you got
Okay i got this issue with my cougar now, when its cold, say sitting overnight and you go to take off from a standstill it gets halfway through 1st, feels like its slipping and then it shifts into 2nd hard enough to chirp the tires, it only happens when its cold, after driving it abit it stops. It upshifts and downshifts silky smooth any other time. I changed the trans fluid and the filter last week. I'm hoping my trans isint going out. Anything i can do to fix this? could it be the torque converter? the car sat undriven for 2 years as some of you know. any help is appreciated
Well here is the story of my DD car. I was getting extremely sick of 15mpg in my 01 F-150, so i drove by a local shop and happened to notice this forlorn cougar sitting out behind the shop. I went in and asked the owner if it was for sale, he said sure $400 as thats what he had in it. I took a look at it, it has a very clean interior, only thing is the dashpad is cracked(arent they all). well it had a bad headgasket as thats why it was sitting, i put new headgaskets on it, had the heads magnafluxed and checked out, no cracks and they are in great shape, i put it all back together and am drivng it now. I've been driving it since Wed last week and i've went about 300 mi to 2/3rds tank of gas, so as far as good gas mileage its awesome, just gotta get the A/C fixed now. Here are some pics of Before and after, i just ran out and snapped these real quick. these are the before, and if you notice in the after pics i repainted the bumpers where they were fading out. I'm still sunburnt from doing that haha. Its dirty too, she hasnt had a bath in a week lol
I've been reading on coolcats about the problem with the kickdown cable grommet, now i was wondering has anyone ever replaced theirs? And where the heck is it? I must be blind becuse i've looked all over the cables and cannot seem to find that bushing at all. my car is an 88 LS with the V-6.
