Electrical Tech / HELP! SOS had in underhood electric fire
Break out your thinking caps and wiring schematics for me (88 Thunderbird 5.0). Had an under hood fire just under the starter relay that blew out a fuse link.

I've looked at all kinds of mustang 5.0 schematics and just can't figure out what this wire powers. Here is the placement under hood and wire colors.

Off the (+) positive side of the starter relay there is a ring terminal that is BLACK with orange stripe that leads to a single fuse link and branches out into 3 DARK BLUE wires each has there own fuse link.

2 of the of the blue wires turn into BLACK and orange striped wires after the fuse link and go into the harness

The 3rd blue wire turns into a YELLOW wire after the fuse link and this is the wire that blew out!! It blew apart in the dark blue section of wiring. What does this wire power? I'm no electrical guru but if I know what the wire powers I can use the schematic to trace back the problem. Thanks in advance for any help

Engine Tech / HO swap ? regarding MAP and TPS sensors
I got my E-7 swap done and timed and it runs excellent. However, I'm having trouble with the car wanting to idle at all. Once rpms drop below 800 the car shuts off.

I am still using the 88 Thunderbird map sensor and TPS (which I noticed there is a physical difference between the HO and Thunderbird TPS shape).

All vacuum lines are hooked up and are brand new. I replaced them all.

I want to drive it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D but can't until i get this puzzle solved.

Engine Tech / Dospoogeented E-7 upgrade coming soon (with lots of pics)
With 245,000 miles on my 88 the engine and body/interior were the more attractive aspect of my $650 purchase.

After 2 months of driving the stock AOD front pump disintegrated. I replaced it with a rebuilt unit for a 5.0 Mustang with added A servo.

Rear end was leaking from all orifice so I pulled the 2:73 Tlok rear in favor of a low mile 7.5 with 3:45 gears and T-lok donated from a FourEyedPride Member.

Added mustang headers upr x pipe and flowmasters

Upgraded front brakes to 11" mustang rotors and added Mustang Pony's

The car feels much better after the gear install but is still much to be desired in the performance department.

I've collected all the E-7 parts for the swap, 190 Walbro fuel pump, and HO ECU. I've also deleted smog and doing a A/C delete with the Ford Motorsport kit since the A/C unit is beyond repair and would cost several hundred dollars to put it back in service. While it's all apart I'm replacing the radiator which fins are all bent and has green scale all over it and new water pump.

When I'm done the only thing original to the engine, and drive train will be the short block. After all this is done I'll still only have $1600 bucks in this car:D

Starting today I'll start posting pics as i go along.

Engine Tech / Factory 5.0 Mustang header on 88 bird ?
I'm in the process of updating the exhaust on my 88' 5.0 bird. I pulled all the stock junk off today. I'm installing stock mustang headers a UPR X pipe and 2 chamber flow masters on it.

Today I installed the factory 5.0 headers and they are awfully close to the motor mounts. Is the vibration of the motor going to cause alot of racket? Everything fits just fine it looks a bit close for comfort thought. Has anyone done this and not had to grind a portion of the brackets off?

Drivetrain Tech / Anyone had an aluminum driveshaft made for their car?
My 88 t-bird should have a 49" driveshaft but i'll have to confirm that. The local junkyard gets $11 for an aluminum driveshaft and they have many out of Aerostars that are 59" in length. I'm thinking about getting one and paying to have it cut and rebalanced. Anyone have experiences with doing this?

Suspension/Steering / 11" disk brake conversion completed!
So I've swapped in brake system from a 91 GT had rotors turned new pads and all. Used the 3/16-1/4 adapters that worked like a charm. New ball joints too:D

I also swapped in some good used mustang gt struts. A few notes on that: First 1) You must removed the mustang mounting plates and reinstall the mounting plate off the T-bird. The mustang mount is slightly narrower. Second 2) I measured both struts fully extended mustang vs t-bird and the t-bird strut was only 1/2 more travel than the mustang so no big deal there.

Even though I marked the shock tower plates to get it dialed back in where it should be. The car was not drivable due to the camber being at 3.07. We trailered it to the alignment shop and they got the camber down to 0.07. Drives like a dream now. I have to install my 91 GT 15:1 rack next but need new rack bushings before that happens.

Drivetrain Tech / servicing transmission in 88 bird?
So I'm doing all the tune up items to my car including changing of all fluids. I put the bird up on stands take out the trans pan bolts and find out the  pan won't come out because of interference with the trans x member and stock exhaust system. What idiot engineer makes the trans unserviceable without removing a bunch of  from under the car? So I dropped the trans x member and now have the pan off and the fluid is so burnt and doubt its ever been changed. I bought a drain plug kit and installed it so I could drain and fill with the next couple of oil changes. Upon trying to reinstall the pan the exhaust is in the way so I can't flush mount the pan with the new gasket. No way to get the pan in there while keeping the gasket in place..........aggravated:mad:

So tonight I'm going to drop the exhaust from the manifolds so I can get the freaking pan back on.
