Body/Appearance/Interior / Headlight Cover...
I was driving today and hit a bump and immediately hear a "crunch"

I thought it was a soda can or something and keep driving, only to find out it clear cover has fallen off.

Where can I get replacement covers?

Within a day of it falling off the bulb went bad because it broke.  no doubt due to being exposed to elements while driving in wind and rain on the way home.

This is a major issue, unfortunately.  Any ideas/

Engine Tech / Another fuel pump!
Well, Airtex let me down after a short few weeks.  I got a refurbed pump, so that's what I get.

Which pump should I be going with?  They replaced my Airtex under warranty, but dropping my tank is a pain in the head.

Engine Tech / Wierd problem all of a sudden - UPDATE 9/24
Quote from: jcassity;336625
spray water on the wires at idle at night to hunt down a plug wire jumping arch out of the boot or along the wire path.

I hope its not your stator assembly in the distributor.
Your looking for blueish white spark.
anything less or near orange isnt a good sign.

Good advice.

I am willing to bet it's a spark issue.  If the wires are old, which they are on a lot of cars because people never change them for some odd reason, they will not have proper resistance, or no resistance, and your car will misfire.

You might not see the plug wire jumping arc.  It doesn't hurt to get some new plug wires that are returnable and try them out.

Engine Tech / Is 5 Bars OK on the Digital Temp Gauge?
OK, cool.

Guess what?  I just ordered a Be Cool Radiator for $250 from JEGS.  A 22 year old car and its original radiator work so  well for me, I figure I should do this for her.

As for questions, my coolant flow, thermostat, radiator cap, all of that stuff, It's good.  I was just wondering if 5 bars is normal and it seems it is.  I wasn't too concerned, as it takes an hour + of driving through the hottest valley in California to do it.

Drivetrain Tech / Figured it out!!
I'd ask the Ford dealer.  You could probably fabricate a new linkage pretty easily if it came to it.

Engine Tech / Wierd problem all of a sudden - UPDATE 9/24
Check your plug wires if your fuel pressure is OK.  That could very easily be the issue and is a very easy, cheap fix. On any car I've had, if I was having misfires they were 90% of the time caused by a bad wire.

You know what's hell of easy?  Changing your fuel filter.  Do that while you're changing the wires.  It'll cost you less than $100 to do both jobs and you should do both anyways if you haven't done so yet.

Engine Tech / Is 5 Bars OK on the Digital Temp Gauge?
If I am driving for a while in the heat in stop and go traffic, or for long distances in the heat up a hill, for example, is it normal for the car to go to 5 bars on the temperature gauge?

I noticed it did this on the way to Stockton today.  It was up a long hill and it was flopping between 4-5 bars.  Turning on the heater got it back to 4 bars/middle.

What temperature is 5 bars and is this normal/safe?

Coolant was flushed recently.

Lounge / Buick??
Dude, a guy driving a red Honda who I was meeting to sell some audio equipment asked "Is that you in the copper Buick?" while I was driving my 88 LX.  Which appears to be the same color as your car.  Don't sweat it.

Buicks are actually great automobiles, from the ones I've owned at least.

Engine Tech / Fuel Pump Q?
Can I use an aftermarket Airtex to get me by for the time being?  Mechanic keeps saying something about the stock fuel pump being a different style unit, etc, but I thought you can use any fuel pump if it meets LPH requirements and fitting.

Engine Tech / Fuel Pump Q?
Stock 5.0 Thunderbird 1988 w/OG fuel pump that just went out.

Can I replace it with any style pump?  Mechanic is saying there are two different style pumps for this car, or something.  I just need to know if that's correct and what the replacement pump is I can use.

Please let me know ASAP, this is an I'm stuck in a city far away emergency,

Engine Tech / Which air intake?
Hypostang.  I followed that guide, it took about ten minutes.  I replaced the stock with a K&N.  It now sounds a lot better, but it's not a noticeable power difference.  Nice to know the car is breathing a bit easier now.

Engine Tech / Which air intake?
I can just remove the airbox and put a K&N cylinder filter on the stock tubing?

I am not looking for bling, looking for a good airflow improvement.  Thanks for saving me $$$.
