Electrical Tech / Mystery wiring harness on 88 V6 Cougar
I just replaced the engine I had, the old one threw a rod, with one from another 88 cougar. The problem is after I got everything hooked up I've got an "extra" harness. The car will run, but it's running rough, however that could be from 6 month old gasoline.

The wiring harness in question is grouped in with the harnesses for the distributor, the pigtail with the jumper for the computer to control the distributor, and the temperature sensor next to the thermostat. It is in the right location and length to plug into the ECT sensor, and can even plug into it since the connectors are the exact same, but the wires are the wrong color according to the manual I have, and the ECT sensor was already connected to the appropriate harness prior. The colors on the harness are Orange with a yellow stripe, and this second one is from memory so it could be wrong, red with a white stripe. The second wire is the same color as the wire that goes to the temperature sensor by the thermostat.

I pulled codes hoping that it would show me a sensor not responding, and the only codes it would pull were 34- No EGR flow, 51- ECT input too high, and 98- RPM drop (with fuel rich) but EGO lean. Unfortunately the car is 60 miles away at my grandparents, since that's the only place I could pull an engine and work on it, and I won't be able to get to it until Wednesday, but hopefully this is detailed enough you guys will be able to help. If this isn't enough information I should be able to get some more info, but it might take a few days.
