General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / 2009 junkyard finds
Quote from: rodsterh;278783
Interesting..I've seen sites like this before and figured they could be helpful for those hard to find parts.

My concern would be the condition of the part they send. Most junkyards I've been too only care about making the sale, they don't care about what shape something is in. One time I wanted to buy a busted up grille just to experiment with but they said $15 for a grille, any grille regardless of condition.  I told them it would just get crushed but they didn't care.

Imagine the same place sending you a part.... "Hey, it's a mirror, you wanted a mirror, so the chrome is peeling and two studs are missing"

Don't get me started on junkyards...I'll never go back to the one that charged me $9 for 'carpet' which was a torn up floor mat I used to carry a greasy part...Harry's..this is for you! :flip:

Dealing with them remotely could be even more interesting!

Did you eventually buy parts you found this way, if so what did you buy and were you satisfied?

to be honest, i am not sure about all of them, the stuff i have gotten, the condition didnt matter since it was a hidden part
i guess you can ask them.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / silicon is the answer for everything
i decided it was finally time to install the window weather stripping, and i got to work. the drivers side went on perfectly. no issues at all. this is where it gets fun

i go to the passenger side next. as i start unscrewing a screw and find this weird clear stuff coming with it. what could it be, but silicon. ok, whatever. i continue on, and find there was more silicon put on the arm rest. then there is a makeshift metal piece with silicon over it holding the part that the door lock and unlock switches.

next, i get the down to the panel itself, i start pulling it apart where the push tabs are in and find a few art stuck to the door, not coming off. i finally get the whole panel off and find those push tabs are too silicon into place.

now that the door panel is removed, i find why there was silicon all over the place. who ever owned the car prior to me (whether it be the previous owner or the owner before him) seemed to like silicon. it looks like the silicon was used in places where some of the screws went, like they lost the clip and used silicon to hold the screw in place.  the push tabs were siliconed into place because the door panel slots were ripped where the push tabs connect. i still dont know what that makeshift piece was with all the silicon on it, but ugh. there was one screw that seemed to have been lost and replaced with possibly the largest, widest screw that could possibly fit.

it took me about 1 hour or 1 and a half hours for the drivers side, taking my sweet time since it was 90 degrees outside, and about 3 hours for the passenger side. i am going to have to take apart the door panel again and make notes of everything messed up and order some interior clip and screws since 95% of the screws were not original, too large, and some not the correct color. also, the arm rest is all messed up because there was so much silicon put on it that it doesnt sit right...and maybe it originally worked, but the heat obviously caused it to let go.

silicon seems to be the answer for everything

i have a lot of work ahead of me

Lounge / ever screwed up paying bills
i once sent in my car payment to my credit card company, i do only bill pay, so its not like it was a check. well my car loan company called and said they never recieved payment, then i looked back and saw what i did.

my credit card at the time was completely paid off, so they actually owed me money. needless to say it was a mess. i ended up paying my payment with the credit card that i sent the money to

Lounge / Wow...that was dumb.
i had ses on my windshield on my rx8, i found that polishing compound took it out. try it on a small section at the bottom of the windshield as this is a completely different manufacturer and different era of car, but it took out the scratches almost immediately

Lounge / DHL SUCKS!!! (rant alert!)
the company i work for ships hundreds of packages a day. we used to be with fedex but a problem with the guy that picked up the packages caused us to stop using them. we then figured we would give DHL a try. we sent a couple of test packages and they were fine. a few tries later, sometimes the overnight packages would go 2 day. on one package from NY to NJ (one coming to us), it literally sat on the delivery truck for 1 week. it wasnt until i called customer service and complained for over 1 hour that the driver finally brought it. on our first major shipment, 99% of the labels didnt print correctly. letters were missing from the address, sometimes the numbers wouldnt show up either. so we called the tech support and they said it was our printer and there was nothing they could do. now i didnt believe it was the printer because first, we never had a problem with it before or after, only when using their software.
i called the sales rep, told him that there were too many problems wiht the deliveries and now the customer service was not helping and we were closing our account.

we switched over to UPS and never had a single issue. since we ship so much they switched us to preferred status where we have a special number to call for help. they treat us like royalty, which made my job much easier. no holding waiting for a rep, they would just pick up. they would follow up. one time we needed something delivered earlier then we put on the label, and they literally called the ups driver and told him to deliver it by the specific time we asked. then they called back 2 minutes after it was delivered and told us it was delivered. (i am sure we had to pay for the early am delivery, but still they took great care with us)
we had a package go missing, they called us and told us they lost it. we didnt even have to wait for the customer to tell us. this made me look good as we were able to contact the customer and tell him it was lost during delivery but another one has already been shipped.

we have been using ups for years now and have never looked back

one funny note, the same DHL rep came into the office about a year ago, and asked for the manager, the receptionist called me up because we had someone come in, and he saw me and literally said, "oh its you. i guess you arent going to switch back to us". then i responded with no, and he turned and left.

i know this sounds like a UPS commercial, but they have been outstanding with us

the new ps3 80gb will not have backwards compatible, that is what they meant when they said it will have the 40gb capabilities with the bigger drive.

sony was losing a fortune on each ps3, until recently when they changed to a smaller chip (without the backwards compatibilty) and they got the drives cheaper.

as far as any laptop drive workign, it must be a SATA 7200 rpm drive, it isnt any laptop drive

as far as wifi on the 360, it has internet just not wireless built in.

my 360 is connected directly into my router as my ps3 is. for me, i get better connection speeds with it hard wired

if you can find an older 80gb ps3, i think around 6 or 8 months old, it will be backwards compatible. best to ask an employee to be sure how long it has been there.

all the 60gb are backwards compatible but they are hard to find and very costly since they are true hardware backwards compatible where the 80gb is hardware and software

there are connectors that will make your ps2 controllers work with the ps3, but the ps3 controllers are great because you can turn on the system with the controller and turn it off, you dont have to get up to switch it off.

if you get the ps3, get drakes fortune. it is by far my favorite game ever

cod4 is great too but the network play is shotty at best. you will constantly get dropped out of rooms, you might get 3 or 4 rounds then kick you out and you have to go again. it once took me an hour to get in the same room with a friend only to be kicked out after 2 or 3 rounds, then having to spend time again

i have both. i used to play the 360 non stop, then i got the ps3. now i play neither of them. i feel i need to play the ps3 since i spent so much money on it. i dont really like it though

i will admit, drakes fortune was by far the best game i have ever played. but other then that, nothing i really like

i like the 360 better, it has a lot of the old star wars games that work on teh 360, and i play those all the time. forza 2 is a million times better then the Gran Turismo games

i play neither of them, i think because if i play the 360 again and dont use the ps3, then i wasted all that money

if you do decide on the ps3, most of the 80gb and the all of the 60gb systems are backwards compatible. the new 80gb are not

the 60 gb might be the hardest to find since you cant get it in stores, thAT one is hardware backwards compatible, the 80gb is a mix of software and hardware. i think most people charge more for the 60gb since it is a true backwards compatible

Lounge / ups claims, how long?
usually about a month or so. it depends on if the shipper has an account with UPS and if he is a prefered customer.

the company i work for is a prefered customer, and it still took about a month...although it could be because we are billed everymonth, and we didnt get a check, just a credit to our account. if the shipper has an account with ups, have him check his invoice, he may have received a credit for it
