Guess I'm just lucky, out of 14 T/Cs owned, I'm yet to pull a head... Biggest engine repairs were replacing a noisy cam and swapping out a puked turbo... Repl a couple clutches and a bunch of fuel pumps...
holy ! someone has actually owned more turbocoupes then me?!
Back about '91,'92, I was going to fly to California from Atlanta and drive my great aunt's 67 Chevelle back from Pasadena to Atlanta. It was 396/powerglide. No A/C, no radio, just your basic car with almost no options. Really low miles, she bought it new but was too old to drive it anymore. Knew I was a car nut, wanted me to have it. Barry Grant wouldn't let me have a week off to drive it back. :-(((
you know that shipping a car would have probably cost less then that plane ticket and gas. i had a buddy ship his camaro from miami to kansas city... only cost $600
yeh i figured those cosworths where a whole different animal. i mean i havnt KNOWN an escort to be RWD but cosworth was building shelby dream it seems. if i were to import a vintage car... it would have to be datsun 510 rhd with a 2 or more rotory.
to me, jdm spec hatchi 86 with 3 rotor would put any car away. p/w ratios like a sportbike. road spec race car :D
i've got a buddy who is trying to sell one his 510's. it's just a shell that, but he's got everything to put it back together. i tried to get it from him but my wife poo poo'd the idea. only thing bad about it is it's a 4 door not a 2 door. still a nice car. if you're interested, i can put the two of you in touch.
a few years ago a buddy of mine and i drove from clearwater to ft. wayne, indiana (1,133 miles one way) to pick up an svo. that was a long ass trip, but it sure as hell wasn't uneventful. my truck popped a head gasket on the way back. poor levi had to drive my truck with the windows down in the freezing cold while i slept in the f-150 that was following us with another mustang on it.
i now live in kansas city, mo, and i'm leaving friday night to drive to ohio with a buddy of mine to pick up my new turbocoupe. i FINALLY found a really clean 88 that i like a lot. it's 678 miles one way. not too bad, but it's not right around the corner either.
