General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Took My Bird For Its First Drive!!!
so i took my bird out for the first ride since the rebuild it was great to be back in the ol bird i took it out with no header panel and no alternator and i found a few problems and a few surprises

problem number one the starter makes noises when cranking it over and stays stuck for a bit when motor starts problem number two it smokes number three it is running super rich and bogs it real bad under 3000 rpm

surprise number one shiznit load of topend power number two it shifts perfect fast positve shifts (chirps em) and three subframes really make a diffrenc
 jsut thought i would let every one know whats going on and as soon as i get my running the way it should i got a race with a chevy nova with an aluminum headed 350 i saw him run at the track he his best was a 12.9 and i think i can take him so i set up the race

Electrical Tech / Eleectric fan
i had that same exact mark 8 fan on my car but it would pull massive amounts of amps and it would actually kill my battery but i had the stock alt. that was my only problem with my elctric fan besides that i loved it my car got better milage and reved faster i could feel more power but if you have an aftermarket alt. that puts out more i guess it would be no problem

oh and also i had a tarus fan on my s10 v8 conversion and that works great also it has two speeds it is small and pulls a lot of air but it also pulls a conisderable amount of amps some thing like 45 on the 2nd speed but a big alt. would solve every thing i think

thanks for all the help every one i fixed the problem my carb was fine i tighten the intake but the prolem was it was sucking oil through one of the hoses that plugs the carb to the valve cover thanks every one for the help

ok sounds good tomarrow i will put a vac guage on it and try a carb i know for sure is right on so we can eliminate some stuff and by cam timing do you mean the timing when i installed the timing chain or timing light on the dapmner sorry to be such a drag but i really wanna get it going trying to make it to the track this friday thanks 4 all the help

its got a duraspark ignition (blue tab) the carb has the choke horn cut off i i tried playing with the air fuel screws and it helped a little well it brought the idel down but it still bounces do you think it might be a timing issue thanks for the help guys let me kow if u need any more info

the springs do make a a diff when i dropped the v8 in to my 84 bird (was a 3.8) it slamed it so i swapped the springs for some brand new v8 springs and now it rides high              maybe to high but the springs are diff for sure man

i need help every one i just rebuilt my engine its a 68 casting 302 bored to 306 and when i fire it up it idles up and down it just goes from 1100 to 850 just going back and forth my mods are

281 keithblack pistons
with H.O. rods they are just newer then the c8's
arp main, rod, and head bolts
on a 10 10 crank
c8 casting heads hand ported
the heads have valves out if e7's
blue racer valve springs up to 560 lift
1.7 roller rockers
comp cam 512 lift 280 duration about 544 with the 1.7's
edelbrock 600 cfm carb
flowmasters with cut offs
headers
torker 2 intake
110 gph fuel pump mechanical

thanks man i thought you guys were going to leave me out to dry but i have the unit but i need a rebuild kit i got the unit froma guy who was running a 347 in his ranger he gave me his 3.73 gears and unit for 50 bucks (he is a good friend) but i dont wanna put it on with out rebuilding it thanks for the help tho man

ok i am just finsished rebuilding my engine and tranny and i want to rebuild my ol 7.5 well right now i have a open diff with a s clip jamed in to the spiders so it might as well be a mini spool and i hate it cause it is my daily driver i have a 7.5 trac loc that i want to rebuild and stick in there but i dont know where to get a kit from

does any one know where i can get a 7.5 trac loc rebuild kit


and a duribility question

if i stick some aftermarket axles and gears in my car how much abuse can it take? maybe about 440 pounds of torq slicks and stock suspension uh maybe?

wahts going on every one just letting you all know that my bird lives again i dont know if any one remebers i smashed my car up a while back and i took that opertunite to rebuild the engine and tranny well many months and dollars later its done i just fired up jsut to let you all know what it used to have and what its got know for a comparison

old:
c8 casting stock bottem end
slightly ported heads other wise stock heads
484 lift energizer cam
torker2 intake and holley carb
headers and flow masters with turn outs before rear wheels \
c4 tranny
2000 stall
3.73 gears
new:

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / FS e303 cam and lifters
i have a e303 cam ,lifters,spider,hold downs and ford racing harden pushrods. When i bought it all it had 2000 miles on them. Bought it for a retro fit but, all that fell threw never used it. Let me know if any one needs them.
