Electrical Tech / digital clocks
That's a cool idea.  Seems the manufacturers are going back to anolog clock retro theme nowadays.

Lounge / Crown Vic steering problem
Well GM has had problems with there Intermediate Steering Shaft in their W-bodies from 99-current.  The Impala from 2000-2005(7th Generation) and the 2006-2013(8th generation) were used as police also.  The problem with GM's is lack of lubrication after awhile and when they start going you can feel everything through the steering wheel.  Kind of feels like the front-end is falling out from under the car.  I do not even believe the "updated" ISS they came up with fixed the problem either.

It's unfortunate that these things have to go this far in order to have a recall!  The average consumer can complain until there blue in the face about the quality of parts design but until you start getting casualties there is no problem?  Look at the Ford Windstar vans having the entire ass-end collapsing from corrosion and unfortunately killing a few people.  Ford did a buy-back on some of those vans; some up to 10 years old at the time!

Engine Tech / 5.0 SO. More power?
H.O upper intake (87-93 Fox Mustang), remove air box silencer, underdrive pullies, phenolic spacer, advance timing a little, fresh tuneup.  All this can be done to the stock motor you have without changing the computer, injectors, heads, etc.

Misc Tech / Direct fit H-pipe for 1988 Thunderbird Sport ?
The big one is you have to use shorty mustang headers and then you can use a 87-93 Mustang Hpipe (with cats or w/o).  They will not bolt up to stock cast iron Tbird manifolds.  This will also route your oxygen sensors downstream further so you will need either longer oxygen sensors or add length to old ones wires.

I have a Pacesetter offroad Hpipe on my 88 Cougar XR-7 and it fit decent.  Had to hack off the ears for the crossmember brace and dimple by the shifter cable bracketry on the transmission.

With the Standard Output 5.0 in your bird, I would not go any bigger than stock 87-93 5.0HO Mustang or Lincoln Mark VI (LSC) tubular headers and a 2 1/4" hpipe.  coolcats.net has good info on the 1983-1988 fox Thunderbird and Cougar and stages of modification.

Suspension/Steering / Driver side rear caliper issue
When I buy reman calipers I always grease the slides and inside of the boots with High Temperature brake lube.  The reman. company sells them semi or loaded to bolt on but I always regrease that way if they have a slide stuck, I can make sure it's not when I install them.

Engine Tech / 88 sport rebuild , need advice

, son called and about croaked.

oil presure shot up to near 90%  and the temp went up as well.  first thought was instrument panel conflict but he said no, the engine was struggling.

he had to run it like that for about a minute before he could pull over. he stopped and restatted and problem solved.

sketchy spooky !

the machinest said the mains were very tight, just a little under .001.
thats why we are running 5w30 now,, maybe he can go thinner for a while.

runs fine thought!  lol

what a pita

My gauges would do that and then drop back down on their own.  I put aftermarket in to keep a better eye, along with stock gauges. Is your TFI breaking down causing it to start struggling after driving?

Engine Tech / 88 sport rebuild , need advice
I would have that engine regone through by a reputable engine builder and give the guy who did the work the tab.  I would not feel comfortable with it, all the trouble you have been having.

I was always told for break in oil and first oil change to use dino oil and not synthetic to help rings set properly.  Any theory behind that?
