Engine Tech / Re: New Radiator
I'm going to keep my mechanical fan. Just don't trust the electric fans with all the money I have in this motor. I'm running 14* on the timing. I use nothing but 91 octane. I think it's a blend because we get it out of CA. I have no issues with horsepower, car runs great. I've had the car running since last November but just got the A/C charged. I went to R134 and had problems getting a new liquid line. Seems my 87 Turbo Coupe uses a liquid line out of a 85 TBird.

Engine Tech / New Radiator
Thought I'd ask the brain trust about a new radiator for my Turbo Coupe. I know a lot of you guys have heavily modified cars and was wondering what type of radiator you use. Just got my A/C working in my car, swapped over from R12 to R134. Living in Southern Nevada summer cruising is a real challenge. Car is running about 210* in traffic. Air temp is in excess of 110*. I'd like to avoid a potential problem. I run the stock fan with a Cobra fan clutch and a 190* t-stat. Motor is a modified 5.0. I would like to keep my fan and shroud if possible.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Cowl Hood Project
Thought I'd post some pictures of my cowl hood project. This is the finished product but I have pictures of the fabrication process if anyone is interested. I've been saving a hood from my old Sport for 15 years in the hopes of someday building a cowl hood. A friend of mine, who is a master at fabrication, decided to help me build it. What I wanted was a steel hood with a 2 inch cowl that followed the factory lines. The main problem was how to retain the shape of the hood during fabrication, the curve front to back and side to side. I wanted it to look like it came that way from the factory. What we ended up doing was building a 2x3in square channel frame for the bottom, bolting it at the hinge and latch location and adding 4 clips screwed to the hood on the sides. The top was a different story. We decided to use 10ga plate, spot weld tabs to the hood and then weld the plate to the tabs. We did this in 3 locations running front to back. This allowed us to cut the hood on both sides and raise the back 2 inches without destroying the shape of the hood.

Looks like I screwed up and posted this twice.

Engine Tech / Replacing Intake, throttle body- questions?
You're not alone when it comes to computers. I wish the Grandkids lived closer so they can teach me.

I took my pictures on my iPad and uploaded them here, I think that may be the problem. I’ll see if my son can help me figure it out or acquire some editing software.
When I was still working, my computer was windows based and I knew how to edit such things, but Apple products kind of confuse me on occasion.
Darren, thanks for the input/advice.

X Looks like I will be going back to the stock Turbo Coupe gas tank. The Spectra gas tank from Rock Auto does not have enough of a baffle in it to stop the fuel from sloshing around when you launch. My gas gauge  near goes to "E" when I take off. I'll probably suck air if I have a 1/4 tank of fuel. The original tank is in a shop now being cleaned out and having the plate for the Tanks Inc sending unit being soldered on. Looks like I wasted a few dollars.
Have 321 miles on the car and so far she runs great. No Leaks! The Centerforce clutch is pretty stiff, compared to stock, and definitely grabs hard. Great street manners, even idling at a light. Brakes are working fine. Suspension is totally different with the frame connectors. Super stiff ride, no body roll or wheel hop. 14-1 rack makes it a blast to drive on a curvy road.
Finally had time to clean up the car. Polished it with Maguires 105. That got all the fine scratches out from the rebuild, dragging the cover on and off. Used a sealer on it, instead of wax, called Mirror Shine by Torque Detail. Took forever to polish it but looks pretty good. You just wipe on the Mirror Shine and wipe it off. Pretty easy. Nice shine.

Engine Tech / Porting the Edelbrocks...Heads and Lower Intake
Thanks for the information. I'll see what they have. With mine being old just worried about high RPM issues. I'm not going back to MSD. Still haven't heard back from them.

If I was going to replace my stock style distributor this would be the unit I would go with:

Video on the distributor here that covers components and installation:

It is made by Performance Distributors and can be had from their site a little cheaper:

They used to make a stock unit with a oil impregnated bronze bushing which is what I have in my car now.  I paid $200 for it back in 2007 but it appears they no longer make it and have moved to this newer style one which looks good in my opinion.  My guess is the one I have will last until the car leaves my cold dead hands as its been flawless since day one.  I do have a Motorcraft TFI module on it and noticed that LMR still sells them.

Had my fill of them. Right now I'm running a stock distributor with no problems. I'll probably buy a new one and replace my 30yr old.

The MSD distributors are known issues. Run a stock Motorcraft unit. It's fine. I still run the stock Motorcraft distributor in my car.
