Yes every Ford T5 from '85 is a world class tranny.... But the 4cyl tranny is a whole different deal than the 5.0 unit. Even the case is machined differently to allow for the larger gear on the input shaft.

The 4cyl tranny is rated a t 240 ft lb torque, where as the 5.0 units vary from 265ft lbs up to 330ft lbs, depending on year and/or application..

thanks that was what i was tring to get at.  :sorry:

thanks for showing me this site also man seems like alot of good info/people here :D

i still feel it will give an advantage in the dirt track and remember radials will not give much traction on dirt.

and btw ford marketed the 87-88 t/c as having the world class gearbox as they did 87-93 v-8 t-5's if i can find the breakdown chart i will post it

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Re: 87 Turbo Coupe
motor swaps are endless into fox body cars

i am currently swapping in a 460 in my t/c it will get a large single turbo later down the line .definatly not a cheap swap but i hope it to be loads of fun

ive also had a mustang w/ a sbc in it > very very easy swap easier then putting a 5.0 in a 4 cyl car it was very fun ran 7.17's in the 1/8 mile with ease and was super cheap to build

another viable option is the bbc swaps in fairly easy also

I agree it is your choice on what you want but it is always more funt o have somthing differant than joe blow has around here there are no fox t-birds with 460's thats why i am building mine.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SWAP dont let anyone discourage you from what you choose to put in it be chevy/ford/chrysler/amc/caddy/etc

Ive got the window controls tucked beside my driver seat for now, until I have the time to install custom switch panel a friend made. Why could Ford have put the window controls on the  door?

same here for a long time , i made a panel also to mount the switches in ive got some proto-type pics if maybe you guys are inteseted

You don't need manual brakes - you can use a hydroboost setup like the Cobra Mustang uses, or I've even heard of people using a smaller diameter vacuum brake booster (this gives you about 1/2 inch of clearance with the valve cover. so use strong mounts!)

true , all depends on how easy you want it to work on personally i am using a manual brake changeover  as i am going to run motorsport valve covers or the blue thunder ones

Drivetrain Tech / Re: 2.3 Torq specs?
flywheel --60-65 ft lbs make shure to use loc tite on the threads also

as for the rest i always use an air ratchet to tighten the pressure plate"evenly" ,and bellhousing bolts

Drivetrain Tech / Re: would a 7.5 rear work in this case?
Quote from: 86Tbuzzard
ok here are my PLANNED mods...HO intake *upper (extrude honed), lower, injectors, sensors the whole 9 yards* B&M transpak for AOD. It should be able to handle that right?

yes,it won"t impose a problem till you exceed 300 h/p or add slicks into the mix

i am running a 87 5.0 bird

long tubes, h pipe , mac lers, h.o intakes, throttle body, underdrives, electric fan ,14 degree initial timing, etc  with the 7.5 open rear diff  car pulls strong for what it is and the 7.5 showed almost no wear at the cars 130,00 miles

i swapped in 3.73's lastnight from a late 80's aerostar van also look for limeted slip units there as most have them
