So I've put an 87 Thunderbird TC 8.8 in my 86 TC, went for a ride and it makes bad noises. All I did inside it was replace the clutchpacks. There is a lot of slack when turning one of the wheels, you can turn one almost an inch before anything inside moves or the other wheel moves. Also, when turning the wheels and then quickly stopping the carrier keeps spinning for a fraction of a second while the wheel is stopped. I have no idea what it could be? Anything could help, thanks.
So I have swapped my rear axle to an 8.8 in the 1986 Thunderbird, and I am using the disc brakes that came on it. I gutted my prop valve and ended up stripping one of the brake lines that goes into the bottom of the prop valve. I'm having a hard to finding a new one to buy and was wondering if there is any way to replace the gutted prop valve with something else and just run an aftermarket adjustable prop valve? Any input would be great thanks. My car is an 86 Thunderbird TC.
Yeah I think I actually will do that. Thanks so much, I don't know too much about this rear end stuff. After replacing those, this diff should be pretty tough? And I have no idea how to do that clutch rebuild stuff, but I'm sure I can find a video.
I have another question. There is an 8.8 with 4.10 gears out of a 1989 F150 that is closer to me. Would that bolt in easily? Is there a way to convert the 5 lug to 4 lug? And like with sizing and all, would it work?
Alright so wheel spacers will be totally easy to bring them back out, sweet. Thanks so much. Just so I know, what are some other 8.8's for other vehicles that'll work with some easy modification?
Hey I've an 86 Thunderbird TC and the 7.5 diff in it went out. I'm looking to swap an 8.8 in it and have a question about it. I've found an 8.8 out of a 1986 302 automatic mustang. Will that one bolt right in? And what will the gear ratio for that be? Will it easily work in my car? Thanks for any info
By the looks of it, it seems to be the 7.5. But I just like the way they look, how aggressive they are. And they really don't cost that much more. But thanks for showing me the difference between the 7.5 and 8.8, good thing to know.
Alright, I think that's what I am going with then, hopefully don't have to remove the quad shocks, but if I do I do. Thanks a lot for the help, hopefully everything comes together nice. Thanks again!
So 275/50 I can probably get away with and not have to change anything in the rear? That is probably what I will do then. And I'm going for thin tires, but ones that wont be too thin and look stretched. Any suggestions on brands or specific tires to run on the front on 15x7 rims?
It's more street use than anything. Pretty much all street use. I'm also more worried about the width fitting than anything else. So for street you recommend 275/50? Or a little smaller like 255/60? And what about front tires, for a 15x7 wheel. I want a good and thin tire for the front.
I've an 86 Thunderbird TC, and I am wondering what the biggest tire sizes I can run in the rear are. I plan to put Mickey Thompson E/T series street slicks on the rear, but I don't know how big I can fit. I don't want to have to do any major changes to the car, anyone have any experience or know what I can fit? Thanks!
