Drivetrain Tech / My new transmission, G Force G101a
There will be issues though with the install. I am quite sure the factory console will not work seeing as the shifter is mounted on the side and I hope I do not have to hack out to big of a hole in the floor for the shifter. I will deal with it when i get to that point. First will be a maximum motorsport k member, coilovers and front suspension install along with getting the engine compartment looking the way it should be. Then install the engine and trans.

Any old pictures of your 83TC?

The ecoboost 2.3 swap is one I'd like to see and I'm sure it's just a matter of time till someone does it! Could give new life to some of our cars. :hick:

I looked at all my old pre digital pictures that I still have and could not find one of that car. It was a white 5 speed car and was in good shape until the accident. One thing I do remember about it was that it had those bs metric trx tires. That was not one of Fords better ideas! I drove it across the country one summer, it was a good car. The only problem I ever had with it was the clutch quadrant failed one day (broke into pieces while using the clutch).
I am sure I am not the only person thinking about doing an ecoboost swap. I am really interested in that engine, looking forward to seeing what people do with it.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / So what does your fox look like today!!!!!
Mine has a long way to go. I took out the drivetrain after new years and sold it. I will not being doing much else to it as now my efforts will be going into my vert to get it ready to sell this spring to help finance the build of my TC. I will start a build thread on the car then.

Here is what it looked like last summer when I was driving it.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / $15,000 1988 Thunderbird?
I like those seats! I would love to buy those from the guy. Glad I looked at the link, I know what I am going to do for my car. I think he would get more money separating the car from the drivetrain as I doubt he would even get 10k for the car, but I have been wrong before......

I had my 83 Turbo Coupe in the later eighties and always liked the car but after getting nailed by some drunk idiot then repaired, the car was never the same. After a lot of searching i traded it in for my vert. I had not driven another since last summer when i used my recently acquired 85 TC for commuting. The big difference is the lack of torque. Once I had the car into third it would pull good enough but 1st and second sucked after being used to a nice sbf fox stang. I yanked the drivetrain out of the car recently and sold it as I am installing a stroker Windsor for drag racing. If I ever get another one of these cars I would install one of the new ecoboost 2.3 engines from the new stangs. 300 ft lbs from 2500 to 4500 will make for an excellent 4 cylinder engine and there is going to be a lot of hi-po upgrades for these engines in the near future, you can bet on that. The only problem is going to be the 10k price tag for a crate engine, I am going to hunt for a written off car in a few years and yank that drivetrain for a future build one day.
If you do not mind low bottom end torque run the 2.3 if you want nice streetable power run a small block but run good heads.

A 500 hp aod is nothing to sneeze at! This car is mainly going to be a strip car so I wanted something tough, that will last and is easily repairable if it does break.
Hopefully the gear ratios will work out good for a high torque turbo car. They should be pretty good running with the 3.55,s and a 28 inch tall slick.
At first I was going to get Dan at CCR to build me a nice 4R70w but when I came across these I decided to stay with a stick. I wont be driving on the street very often, just to the odd local show or club cruise and of course there is now a FFW running at the dragstrip here every summer so I will for sure want to do true street in that. That in mind I did want an od transmission but with the limited street driving this car will ever see I figure I can live with the 4 speed.

For that, I'd have my wife sleep on the floor..and I'd be cuddling that transmission. LOL

Me too! I always wonder why women can never understand that....
Guess that's why I am divorced!

Hope everybody is doing good, have not posted for a while.
I am still purchasing the parts for my 1985 TC and thought I would show some pictures of the transmission I recently purchased. It is a G Force G101a 4 speed! I am really looking forward to banging the gears with this badass transmission. It has a long V gate shifter and although it is a clutch assisted trans, you really only use the clutch when taking off. No problem at all banging off wot powershifts as that's what it is made for. Most people say that this is an upgrade ( at least for power handling capability) Of a T56. This trans can handle 1000 hp, launching on slicks with a 3500 lb car. I am going to mate it up with a Quick time bell and a Mcleod RXT twin disc clutch. Of course for those who do not know or might have forgot, it is going to be running behind my Keith Craft 395 ci Windsor with a T76 Turbonetics. I still have to build the rear end and get the front suspension together but at least it is coming along but not as fast as I would like.

After talking it over with Mike at G Force and him seeing my dyno sheets and knowing the build of the engine, we came up with the gear ratios shown on the transmission, running with a 3.55 rear axle gear.

Don't mind the Mustang sign, I have owned my vert since it was new!

I was just thinking that I should have put this in the lounge not here, sorry mods...

Body/Appearance/Interior / Different types of hoods.
I have never heard anyone say that using hood pins is a " Rice Mod" before. Hood pins are more associated with late sixty early seventy muscle cars than anything else it seems to me. But who knows, I am an old fart and do not care less about what the import crowd does. Myself I am getting a stock style fiberglass hood and grafting on a 95 Cobra r cowl onto it. You can get very good quality bolt on glass hoods that do not require hood pins and the added bonus is reduced front end weight.

Engine Tech / dual snorkel air cleaner housing
I think you are right on the money and if I was you I would find a nice decal to put on the air cleaner lid too, they are available in reproduction. Also looks very nice when the lid is chromed. Myself I like the look of factory or what should have been factory. You could also get a taller air filter to give a slight gap 1.5 or 2 inches and run a 87/88 TC hood for more air induction. Either way the dual snorkel that ford ran on the carbed fox stangs was way cool. I say go for it.....

Engine Tech / More Horsepower!
I was almost afraid to look at this thread since my last post as on most other forums when you are a newer member you seem to get slammed whenever you voice your opinion.
Maybe when  the free horsepower subject is brought up it might be best to consider the power that the factory has bottled up or not unleashed, not just the money. To me that is what is so great about being a car nut, finding out what can be done to get the most from your ride...
Sure both motors have poor heads but compared to what was available before, ( 1974 up smog heads ) they at least offered some decent performance. I did post a link to a Essy head with Bopart cam that is being auctioned on Ebay. The head is already more that what I payed for my CNC KC Brodix 210 cc heads that they used on the Windsor that was built for me. I like the 2.3 and want to build my TC motor into a decent daily driver motor that gets good mpg when I am cruising down the highway and when some kid wants to play with his Audi or BMW and tries to put you to shame, I want to have the power to make him think twice. I like them both and I like most Ford motors they all have there place.
Hearing a stroker FE run is one of the coolest sounds in the world...
Anyways nice that everybody kept there cool, nice to see.

Engine Tech / More Horsepower!
My 88 GT Vert ran a 13.6 @ 101 with a stock intake 55mm t body long tube headers, high flow cats with stock after cat exhaust. 3.73 gears and the excuse there is no free horsepower, 10 second tune up. 14 degrees initial timing 94 octane gas and power shifting. This is a fairly heavy car also. Throw on a 100 shot zex kit and it is a mid 12 second car. Plus it has the bottom end torque that feels sweet on the street. Sure a hci upgrade costs money but cutting down the 5.0 is extremely short sighted imo/ I know lots of people that run high tens or low elevens with ac, and very streetable with very little money invested. I like the 2.3 turbo but to cut down the engine that has made its mark in history and revived the modern hot rod, well no offense Tom, is very biased and not a very reasonable thing to say.

LEADS on T-Bird/Cougar Stuff For Sale / Esslinger Aluminum Cylinder Head Ford 2.3 Turbo 2300 Svo Turbo Coupe New
Here is a nice head on eBay for anybody who might be interested.
I do not know to much about this head if anybody has information please post it.
I do want to get a nice head and cam with other upgrades for my 2.3 but that is in the future.
The starting price is kinda high but I know the iron Boparts are not cheap also. It comes with a Bopart stage 2 cam, been ported, comes with a head gasket and arp studs. Looks like a very nice hard to find head.
