User Rides / My First Car
It's amazing the similarities with your 87 to my 86.  Same color, virtually identical interior, same drive train.  Awesome!  Good luck with the build.  Mine is partially disassembled but I haven't actually started the work yet.  I will get off my butt soon.  I need to make the trip to the JY and get the window track seals and rebuilt the beltline window seals.  Mine has 107,000 miles and the transmission has been rebuilt.  I can't wait to see yours in new paint.

I've learned a few things in the last six years of cell phone use.

1.  I can place a call
2.  I can receive a call
3.  I can retrieve messages

That's enough isn't it?

Oh I also learned that even with an automatic transmission that I can't use a phone while driving.  It's an impossible task.  No tickets for me.

Engine Tech / NoX excessively high.....
On the 3.8 the pasages below the CFI get plugged up with carbon as well.  It may be the same situation on the 5.0.  If I remember right the EGR is mounted to the CFI base plate so if the EGR has carbon so does the area on the manifold below the CFI.

Engine Tech / Idle control valve
My 86 Tbird 3.8 idle control valve retracts in a "herky jerky" fashion.  It does not retract smoothly. In other words it retracts at about 1/8" increments at a time when returning to idle.  It seems that the engine is slow to return to idle.

Is that a idle control valve issue or is it the signal to the ICV doing that?  I've tried my spare but it does the same thing.  The spare is an old one from the 85 Cougar I used to have.  So, it's not necessarily known good.

User Rides / Finally
I finally have a picture of Vinniebird's Sport for my desktop.  Big enough to be motivational for my 86.  I need to be reminded everyday to "GET TO WORK".

The vinniebird:

That's not a kitty litter box!  Just oil drippings from the Ranger...

User Rides / And so it begins....
Gee, I need to get to work.  I'm thinking strip everything and send the shell to you for the body work.  You can handle two class projects....right?

It really doesn't look this good.  It's got a sunburn and the clear is peeling bad.

Body/Appearance/Interior / 86 Tbird project

Wait til next week. I'm pulling parts from an '86 at the yard. I'll try to grab the tracks for you if they're good.

Please don't go spending money on that but information they are good would be great.  I still have to go back and recheck the Lincoln.

As typical there is a million and a half of things to check up on, line up and plan.  I've let it sit a whole long time.  If I had started back in October it would be done by now.  I did manage to take everything apart as to exterior bright work and all the interior.  Lots of sun rot to deal with plus I need to drop the dash for that heater core that I bypassed 6 years ago.  With our winters I wasn't motivated to get er done.  Generally no heat required.  A/C is very important however.  The list is long but no rust and it's a 3.8, I did spy a used Crown Vic (302) for sale for $1250.  Hummm. A V8 would be nice.  Also I have to deal with the smog puppiess here.  One thing I'm confident in is the brakes.  They are almost new including the MC.  I also suspect broken pre-cats; that won't be pleasant.

Body/Appearance/Interior / 86 Tbird project
Besides my 92 Bird I have a 86 Bird project that's been on hold for almost a year.  There is one major problem keeping me from going forward.

I need both right and left window track seals.  They just disintegrated when I touched them.  As you all certainly know there is nothing available nor is there any aftermarket or universal that will do the job.

I was thinking about those from a MK VII.  There's one in the JY that the tracks are soft and plyable.  Like my Bird the MK has no vent windows.  Are these a possibility?

I also need the dew wipes but that is easy to deal with aftermarket.
