Nice plans. Lighter than 87-88 body style. Any pics?
V8Demon is getting by with a 7.5. I think he has a lock-right unit. It looks like it will cost the same as an 8.8 but easier to install and no disc brakes. Check this out:

 I think the spider gears are the weak link in the 7.5 and the lock-right addresses this. There may be a weight savings and possibly less parasitic drag? Of course I have no experience with this option because I had already swapped in a TC 8.8

You mean I drilled and tapped a hole in my explorer intake for nothing. . Looks like it will impede flow too.:punchballs:

Engine Tech / E7s or GT40 ?
I wouldn't mess with the E7's if I had to do it over again. A fun weekend driver is a very gray description. I would either come up with an e.t./mph goal or find a car that runs as you would like it and copy that combo. I'm finding out the hard way that it's cheaper to do it once right than fix it twice. GT-40/Gt-40p/best you can afford.
Check out this guy. His combo started out where you will probably be and is now at 329rwhp with untouched GT40p's and an Explorer intake. He's also mass air and tuned with Moates Quarter horse. I think both moates and tweecer both rely on having mass air just in case you want to dabble in tuning. Something else to think about.

Wow. 3 hours of looking. I should've come here first. Thanks for the info guys. So my options are 1.) get a sd friendly cam ($$$) or 2.) convert to mass air with a mustang pcm ($$) and hotter cam ($) or 3.) just stick with the lowly cobra cam 4deg adv or something like that (free). I thought about 1.7 rr but for almost the same cost I figured I might as well change the cam.
What started as degreeing my cam and changing to an explorer intake keeps snowballing. :bangcat:

Just fyi my plans also included milling my heads .040 and backcutting the valves. I know they're E7's, but I spent a lot of time porting them and I'd like to know that it wasn't for nothing (or worse!) :hick: Eventually long tube headers and a 100 shot will be the end of the mods for this engine. Maybe demon is right and I should stick with SD.

Electrical Tech / Anyone using an MN12 ecu?
I'm trying to do the mass air conversion using a '93 tbird ecu (it came with the engine). I can't find a pinout diagram anywhere to repin it. I'd like to use it in my '87 cat. I'd really like to save some cash for a non-sd friendly cam rather than pay $100 or more for another ecu. Can anyone help?

That stuff looks awesome. Does it keep the lens from yellowing again? I didn't see anything on UV protection on their site. I'll probably cover the whole car in it anyways because my paint is hurting being out in the elements (no more car tent).

Engine Tech / Rear main seal. Please help.
Check to make sure your pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) system is operating properly. An old engine with a lot of blowby due to worn rings needs to be able to get rid of the pressure. The weakest link is the usually the rear main seal. At least I think that is the situation for 302's but maybe it applies to 2.3t's too.

Any updates on the exterior polyurethane substitute J? What kind of a voltage drop are you getting to the headlights? I'm getting a 2 volt drop and can't see squat! I'm going to try your reflective improvements and see if I can get away without relays (read: cheap)

Really a vehicle that can handle higher speeds (braking and stability) should be safer than one that can't. Better to have the ability to go fast and not use it than to not have it at all right? It tows, hauls, relatively quiet, both of you like it. Well played I say.
