I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

The mess under the handle/lock really bummed me out. But if I was on the search and really wanted that model, that color, and didn't mind paying for shipping I'd consider it just being able to KNOW what the undercarriage looks like. Clearly not a sun-baked car, which is the compromise you *usually* expect to make for a rust-free desert car. I bet that dash cover has a perfect dash top underneath.
1987 20th Anniversary Cougar, 302 "5.0" GT-40 heads (F3ZE '93 Cobra) and TMoss Ported H.O. intake, H.O. camshaft

Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...

And there you have it.  LAST year.
Prices are going up on late '70s and '80s cars.  There was a wall at about 1984 until recently.  Seems to have been pushed down this summer and now the later 80s cars are moving upmarket as well.

I'm finding a lot of garbage cars for 2,000. If I was ready and wanted a cougar, that would be a good buy. The fact that the seats aren't torn speaks volumes.
It's Gumby's fault.
